Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Allison Ann | 414 comments Hello team! Sorry, didn't realize they were posting the teams last night and I had to go to town this morning (only do that 4-5 times a year, yuck!). Glad to meet all of you.

Anyone wanting the captain's hat? Any ideas for names? I am wretched at naming things that aren't dogs and cats, so I hope we have some creative people on board. :)

message 10: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 2200 comments Euh the naming..... not so much haha. I am not all that handy when it comes to making up names.

If nobody else wants to be captain though, I can do that.

message 11: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments We could always just call ourselves ONE. Then when we inevitably triumph (I can dream) the headlines would be ONE WON (possibly with several exclamation marks). It would be epic of course. ;)

I kid, but I'm happy you will be Captain Eldarwen.

message 22: by Tatenisha (new)

Tatenisha | 405 comments Since we still looking for a name. How about One and Done?

message 23: by Allison Ann (last edited Mar 08, 2018 12:24PM) (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments Either of those names is good with me. :) And I'm glad we've got Eldarwen for captain. I've sent you all friends requests, hope that is okay.

I'm Allison or Al (I use Allison Ann to thin me from the Allison herd here on GR, but I always feel like I'm in trouble when people call me that). :) I live in NW Ontario, Canada surrounded by water (frozen at this time), rocks, trees, wildlife and very few people, my time zone is central (so 5 p.m. for shelf call), I work in seasonal tourism (so all the time or not at all), I'm 48 with a bunch of furry children but no human ones and I prefer my reading with minimal romance (so PNR is not the shelf I'm most looking forward to). I also clearly have a problem with parentheses. :) I've played SOS Bingo before but not the last few rounds. And I think I'm going to read Dead to the World for my free space call - #6 UF Series. Started the series when it was first released but haven't gotten back to it since. Might as well dig some of those back shelf books out. :) Looking forward to getting to know you all.

message 24: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 2200 comments I think going back to the Sookie Stackhouse series for Bingo isn't a bad idea! They work for a lot of the shelves, so you might even be able to make a dent in the series! :-)
I really enjoyed the first books in the series but felt like Harris was losing interest while writing the ~3 last ones. Nevertheless, the books are a guilty pleasure and it was good entertainment hehe.

With a bit of luck you're going to find something with less romance on the PNR shelf - people shelve books in the oddest way at times o.O

So yes, a little bit of introduction is definitely in order, good call Al! I go by Eldarwen, Eldar or just E on the internet for the most part though my real name is Stephanie, usually shortened to Steph - always makes me go "huh" when someone writes Steph in the Discussion Thread because I'm wondering what I've done now ;-)
My absolute favourite genre of all times is fantasy - mainly of the Urban variety these days but I like all kinds as long as the synopsis sounds interesting. I also enjoy a good crime/thriller novel from time to time. I've recently fallen into the In Death trap ;-) And I've rekindled my tentative connection with the Black Dagger Brotherhood series just this weekend. I read the first one and wasn't entirely convinced but I read the second book almost in one day.

Not sure yet what I'll read for the Free Space... I have trouble deciding at the moment. Too many books that want my attention!

message 25: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 2200 comments Oh and I'm living in Luxembourg, so shelf call is probably going to be around midnight for me - time zones are not my forte.

So I will most likely not be awake when shelves are called.

message 26: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 400 comments Ooo I need to continue with the In Death series, I think I'm on 20 something. And I've been meaning to check out the Black Dagger Brotherhood, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Anyways, I'm Victoria (or Tori, but I usually just go with Victoria on GR). I'm American, but currently live in England so shelf call for me will be around 11pm, but I'm working a night shift tonight so I'll at least be awake for the first call. My all-time favorite genre is also fantasy, but I dabble in most everything. I read mostly romance and urban fantasy for the past two years or so, but this year I'm trying to be more varied in what I read. I've done pretty well so far, but I'm probably going to go back to reading a ton of uf throughout this challenge.

And for the free space I'm going to read Burn Bright :)

message 27: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 2200 comments Charles and Anna are great!

I'm waiting for the book to be released in my paperback edition so it fits with the others on the shelf. Nope, I do not have issues ;-)

Right, I'm going to browse the group shelf for a little bit and will try to decide on a book. Otherwise, I'll just log on first thing tomorrow morning so I'll see the shelf call and then I'll pick something for that.

message 28: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 2200 comments If one of you ladies wants to post the shelf announcement here in the thread while I'm snoozing, feel free to! :-)

message 29: by Eldarwen (last edited Mar 07, 2018 02:02PM) (new)

Eldarwen | 2200 comments Ok, I'm never going to make a decision now, so I'll just try reading a few pages in my current really, really slow read and will log on tomorrow morning to check the first shelf call and pick a book that fits for it.

And now off to bed! Good night! :-)

For some reason my bookstore gave me a paperback copy a few days before it was released. I was very confused and think it might actually be an ARC they happened to have stoked - no idea and I'm not complaining =) Although it still doesn't match to rest of my books since it's not a massmarket paperback, but since I don't actually like those editions I'm okay with it being different.

And if I'm the first to see the shelf announcement I'll post it here :)

message 31: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments Let's hear it for absent minded bookstore owners. :)

Mercy Thompson is another series I want to get back to. I'm sure I'll be able to slot a couple into Bingo.

message 32: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 400 comments I love Mercy :)

And the shelf is...

Shelf #1 ~ 7/3/18: Futuristic Romance

message 33: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 400 comments It's a good shelf to read the In Death series!

message 34: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments It is. In fact Dark in Death was the book I planned for this shelf. Of course it is also the only book I don't have access to this week. Typical luck.

So I think I will start with my Free Space book and start hassling someone to read faster and return that book to the library soon. ;) Or find something else that I can get to sooner. I refuse to spend money on books with embracing couples or half-naked men on the covers - and this list is full of those books.

message 35: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 400 comments lol this shelf definitely has its share of half naked men on it ;)

And I'm probably going to end up reading Memory in Death, but I'm still deciding. Although I should read it in an attempt to catch up. I'm on #22, which sounds like a lot, but you're apparently on In Death #46! There's so many freakin books in this series!

message 36: by Tatenisha (last edited Mar 07, 2018 03:52PM) (new)

Tatenisha | 405 comments I will be reading Warrior's Woman (Ly-San-Ter, #1) by Johanna Lindsey for Futuristic Romance
I have not read one of her books in years.

message 37: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments It's one of the few series I am caught up on. And it is ridiculously long. But generally a good read.

message 38: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments Oh look, an embracing couple and a half-naked man. Jackpot! ;D

I didn't know Johanna Lindsey wrote anything besides historical. Hope you enjoy it Tatenisha.

message 39: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 400 comments @Tatenisha - I haven't read anything by her, but hope you enjoy it!

@ Allison - I'll catch up with the series... eventually...

message 40: by Tatenisha (new)

Tatenisha | 405 comments I didn't either so I figured I would give it a try.

message 41: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 2200 comments Victoria wrote: "It's a good shelf to read the In Death series!"

Ooooh, yes, yes it is!

I'm going to pick up Holiday in Death (In Death, #7) by J.D. Robb :-)

See? I'm even further behind haha.

Sorry, I completely missed that until now!! o.O

I like that one!

Allison likes both suggestions. Victoria?? What do you think about this one?

message 45: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 400 comments Oh god, I have to choose one? I like both!

Well, as I said I like both and fine with either, but since I happened to have a coin on hand I've decided to let science choose my preference - and it's apparently 'One and Done' (because it landed on tails :)

message 46: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 2200 comments Perfect! I'll let the mods know :-)

message 47: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments Yay, we have a name!

I will be done my Free Space book tonight and because this is just our first shelf, I'm going to wait a couple of days to see if Dark in Death (In Death, #46) by J.D. Robb comes in at the library. If not, I will instead read Amaryllis (St. Helen's, #1) by Jayne Castle which is found on the first page of the Futuristic Romance Shelf.

message 48: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 2200 comments No stress!

As you said, it's only the first shelf, so no worries if the books aren't read within the week. We have plenty of time! :-)

I decided not to start with the shelf book yet because I want to finish my slow burner first. Otherwise I'll never finish - I just know it haha. And last night, it finally started picking up a little bit so I'm finally less than 100 pages from the finish line!

And then I'll decide what to read for Free Space! Finally ;-)

Week: Free Space

Dead to the World (Sookie Stackhouse, #4) by Charlaine Harris
Book: Dead to the World
Author: Charlaine Harris
Date Read: 3/08/18
Rating: 4 Stars
Review: I am getting back to this series after a long break. I liked this book better than the first few because a) very little Bill b) Eric wan't such a tool for most of the book and most importantly c) Sookie wasn't such an idiot as usual, she did some thinking for herself and didn't need rescuing as regularly. As she likes to quote so often, she doesn't have much book learnin' *sigh* but she's smarter than people give her credit for. Until this book I assumed she was delusional and dumb as a brick, but she gave me hope this round. She still doesn't have much in the way of common sense, but she might be able to think her way out of a paper bag.

message 50: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 2200 comments It was a good reading weekend :-)
I'm about two thirds through Holiday in Death for the Futuristic Romance shelf and I'm going to read Silence Fallen for Free Space.
