Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Ora (oeamis) Hi everyone!
Any ideas for names?
Captain?

message 7: by AliciaJ (new)

AliciaJ | 781 comments Hi all, I’m Alicia. I’m pretty excited to be doing this challenge again this year. It was so much fun last year and I found a ton of new authors, which was awesome.

I’ll have to think about some names, nothing is coming to me right now. And since I’m still a relative newbie, I think I’ll pass on volunteering to be captain this time around. Does anyone else have any captaining experience?

message 8: by Krissy (new)

Krissy (krissystewart) Hi, team! I've played many times but I really would rather not be captain since I use my phone.

message 9: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Davis | 790 comments Hi! I'm Melissa :) I'm so excited to get started! This is only my 2nd time playing but I had so much fun last round!

During R15 3 of us co-captained ... one of our ladies also only had access through her phone so it was impractical for her to help out.

I can manage our lists/links if you want but I rarely am able to get on in the evenings (eastern time) so that means that I miss the shelf calls until the next day. If someone else wants to take on the responsibility of posting shelf calls/links I don't mind sharing captain.

I love the idea of co-captaining. I usually get on at home after work, but sometimes I can sneak in time while I'm at work too. I'm happy to take care of posting the shelf calls/links. We just need to figure out how to do the reporting stuff-does anyone have experience with that?

I’m starting it tonight. Thought about waiting u til tomorrow but it seems so long to wait with my nook telling me to read it now.

Ora (oeamis) I’m fine with any of the names. I am a huge LOTR fans so the last two ar my favorite.

I'm trying to save all of my pnr and mf books until tomorrow so I have plenty to choose from. It's killing me to wait though. I've got the new JD Robb sitting there on my kindle and it's making me nuts! LOL

message 19: by Melissa (last edited Mar 06, 2018 04:02PM) (new)

Melissa Davis | 790 comments Ora, it's so hard to wait another day when I've already been waiting so long! Alicia - it's a little different than the Mercy Thompson books but at least it's in the same world... and I just love Charles! Been trying to distract myself w/ regular romance, graphic novels & mysteries!

Thanks for offering to do shelf calls, Alicia! I don't mind posting stamp requests for us. It's super easy to copy/paste into the captain's log and then link it on the stamp requests page. Also, it doesn't matter if I wait to request until first thing in the morning until it gets closer to the end since Steph and Sandra usually issue all the stamps at the end of the week until someone is close to winning. By the time we are down to the wire, my daughter's club volleyball season will be over and it will be easier to log on at night.

I can't wait to see my TBR explode! I haven't read any JD Robb or Nora Roberts b/c I have no idea where to start ... going to have to get some recs if you guys are fans!

message 20: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) I shelved everything that works for Burn Bright so hopefully you will luck out with tomorrow’s call. I am hoping High Voltage will work for me.
I just remembered the free spot. I better check the rules for it. I play bingo is a few groups and the rules are all different. Maybe my book will work for free if not for tomorrow’s call. I will post ,y book tomorrow for it after I have a chance to look at the rules.

A few years ago the entire series was a buddy read. I love the series so much I read all six books (at the time all the books in the series) in a month.

It's so funny that we've been talking about the Alpha & Omega series. I just happened to pop in to my favorite used bookstore after work yesterday, and was astonished to find books 2-4, as well as several of her Mercy Thompson books on the shelves. Of course I snatched them all right up!

message 28: by AliciaJ (new)

AliciaJ | 781 comments Krissy wrote: "I just recently finished Year One and was so disappointed in it :("

I've decided I'm not going to read it for that very reason, I just don't think I'll like it at all. It sounds so far off from what I expect in a Nora Roberts book that I just don't see the point. I kinda felt like that with Come Sundown too, that it just wasn't up to her usual standard. It's sad.

message 29: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Davis | 790 comments Yay! I'm glad that High Voltage will work for the Free Space, Ora! I'm like #67 on the wait list @ the library because I forgot that it was coming out! At least my library bought 12 copies so it really shouldn't take that long for my turn.

Alicia, after I finished Mercy I had no idea what to read next. I burned through Alpha & Omega in about a month, too. Congrats on the great find!

message 30: by AliciaJ (new)

AliciaJ | 781 comments So does anyone have any other names that they want to put in the hat? If not, I'm thinking we should take a vote, what do you all think?

message 31: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Davis | 790 comments Krissy, Mercy is one of my all time favorite UFs. She's so clever in a resourceful way & Patricia Briggs has a way of hooking you fast! It took my cousin like a year to talk me into trying her & the Mercy books got me out of my biggest reading slump to date. Alpha and Omega are the spin off. I like Mercy as the MC more than Charles/Anna but I love the Pack of misfit toys in Alpha and Omega. It's a great series to keep the world going.

So, since I finished all the Mercy-related stuff that exists, I have been totally loving Jane Yellowrock and her world (Soulwood in particular)! She's my current #1. Trying to read her more slowly b/c I have no idea what I'll read when I finish. Getting ready to start book 6!

What's everyone else's favorites?

message 32: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Davis | 790 comments Re: Names

So I think our contenders are:

Chapter Chicks
Raucous Readers
The Fellowship of the Bookworms

I remember briefly hearing about the Jane Yellowrock books last year during Bingo R15, but I never followed up and bought any of the books. I'm definitely going to have to remedy that though, it sounds like the series is kickass! ;)

message 36: by AliciaJ (new)

AliciaJ | 781 comments Chapter Chicks works for me as well.

message 37: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Davis | 790 comments One of the things that I like the most about Faith Hunter's writing is that there are so many moving parts that I can almost never guess what is going to happen next or even how things fit together. Also, she never gives everything away so there are still unanswered questions for the next books - not cliffhangers but broader questions like stuff about Jane's history and there are always consequences for her choices that have rippling repercussions. It's definitely UF, though there are several possible love interests as of book 5, it's really just not a priority for her. She's too busy trying not to die or let people she loves/feels responsible for die. Being a rogue vampire hunter is hard on relationships. I've heard people say that they had a hard time getting through book one because the writing style is pretty different but they are almost always glad that they stuck with it.

message 38: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Davis | 790 comments Ora, sounds like Chapter Chicks is the top choice. Is that okay with you?

message 39: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Davis | 790 comments Krissy, the only series on your list that I've read is The Dresden Files. I'm reading it with the group read this year. Starting book 4 next! I'll have to check out the others!

message 40: by AliciaJ (new)

AliciaJ | 781 comments Krissy, I just looked up The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen--it looks *really* good! I'm definitely adding it to my tbr.

I fell in love with a lot of YA authors last year, like Sarah J Maas & Julie Kagawa. The other two series that really stand out for me are Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo and Red Rising by Pierce Brown.

I also discovered Bec McMaster's series London Steampunk, which blew me away. I've never enjoyed steampunk before this, but Kiss of Steel was amazing. A similar series is Kristen Callihan's Darkest London, another fantastic series that seems like a mix of steampunk and magic. I loved it.

I really got lucky in my reading last year, with having the chance to find so many new (to me) and amazing authors. I'm excited to see what this year has in store.

Ora (oeamis) We have futuristic romance for our first call

Right now I am going with Born of Night (The League Nemesis Rising #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon since I know I have it in my library and haven’t read it yet. I may change it to a pay-changing book depending on what the rereading policy is. If it’s like last year with only one reread, I will see mine for another call.
