This book takes place in Mirador, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, in the year 2050. Perspective moves around and is usually third person focusing on Marisa Carneseca. The largest focus of the story is that one of Marisa's Friends, Anja, set to inherit her fathers mega corperation, affords and buys a new, rich kids "Recreational drug," called bluescreen, which delivers a nonaddictive high by crashing the user's neural implant. Naturally, there are even more sinister motives behind it than simply a drug racket. I can't say I particularly like or relate to the characters of Bluescreen. They do things that I don't do, experience situations that I do not, and usually act ways that I aspire not to. Overall, however, I certainly enjoyed reading this book. The plot was complex and had me spinning in circles and marking pages to come back to. The writing was incredible, and kept to one style of writing without repetitive nature. I do think that there should have been less focus on Virtual Reality, because those scenes were the few in the book that I just tried to get past quickly. I'm not really sure who I should recommend this book to. It was something of a science-fiction book, but more emphasis on story and less on new science than your average scifi. I read 100% of the book. Including dedication, thanks, and copyright.
