I sigh as I walk into a coffee place inhaling the rich coffee smell. God I need a cup after a long night of looking after the city and taking down some magic users who were running and illegal business.
I head to get in line when someone bumps into me. "Hey, watch it." I say lifting my head to look at the taller figure.

I turn to find a girl behind me glaring at me. I shrug. “Hey, I can’t watch thing I can’t see,” I reply dryly, shoving my hands in my pockets. “Maybe you should slow down and look around before you go accusing strangers of getting in your way. It’s not hard.”

He shrugs and tells me he can’t watch for things he can’t see. He shoves his hands in his pockets and adds the maybe I should slow down and look around before I go accusing strangers of getting in my way.
"You bumped into me, not the other way around." I say with a glare. Not in the mood to deal with this guy.

“I am just waiting in line like the rest of these people,” I reply irritably, rubbing my eyes. Jesus, how long does it take people to order coffee anymore? Better yet, why don’t people just make their fru-fru drinks at home? Clearly they’ve got time to kill

I huff and roll my eyes at him. I tap my foot a little as I wait for the line to move. I swear it is taking forever today. To just prove that today is not my day, some preppy blond ditz trips on her ten inch heels and dumps her coffee all over me.
"Shit." I say pulling my shirt away from my skin. Dammit it was hot.

I heard a curse from behind me. Turning again to check it out I’m tackled to the ground by some bimbo in ten inch heels. She pouts like a child and looks down at me on the floor. “Oh I’m sorry!” she squeals.
I shove her off and get to my feet without a word. “Watch it,” I snap impatiently and go to grab some napkins, returning with a fistful for the girl from before and a few for myself. Bimbo scurries away looking about to cry.

Apparently the ditz ended up tackling that guy that bumped into me and he was just as pissy at her. He grabs some napkins and I take the few he offers to wipe up my shirt. The manager comes out and apologizes to us both and offers us a free coffee on the house.

Ezra
Once the manager comes over I order a large ass black coffee. When he scrambles to get that I toss out the soaked napkins and my spilled coffee up. I kinda feel bad for the person who has to clean up but what are you gonna do? Can’t control every blonde bimbo in the world now.

Lani
I order an iced coffee with extra espresso and the manager scrambles to get our drinks. I sigh as I dap my soaked shirt. Alright it wasn't hot anymore, just wet and kind of sticky. So not my day.
I glance at the guy and sigh. "Sorry about being snappy earlier. It's just not been my day and I kind of took it out on you." I say trying to be nice and apologize for being a bitch,

Taking a breath I nod in agreement. “Yeah, I get it. Kind of hard to get up on the right side of the bed when you’re hanging halfway out of it,” I sigh, running a hand through my dark hair as I wait for my coffee. Then I hold out my hand to her. “I’m Ezra.”

He nods, taking a breath and agrees that it is hard to get up on the right side of the bed when you are hanging halfway out of it. He runs a hand through his hair and holds out a hand to me.
"Lani. Nice to meet you even if it is under poor conditions." I say offering a small smile trying to be nice.

I nod and smile when the manager returns with out drinks. Then I go over to doctor up my coffee with a shit ton of sugar and milk. “Honestly, I’m not sure why I make a habit of coming here. Every time something happens whenever I walk in the door.”

Lani
He smiles back and the manager returns with our drinks. Ezra goes to fix his up and tells me he is not sure why he makes it a habit of coming here when something happens every time. I chuckle a little and nod.
"Same but it is the closer coffee joint near where I live and most mornings I need my fix before I can do anything with my day." I tell him as I sip my iced coffee.

Ezra
“Same here. Maybe it’s just habit - do it once, now I got to come here for the rest of my life,” I chuckle, gulping down my sweet Brown coffee.

"Yeah, I know the feeling." I tell him with a little chuckle as he drinks his own coffee. Okay so maybe he wasn't as much of a jerk as I thought when he bumped into me and in all fairness I was kind of a bitch to him.

“Where are you heading?” I ask her as I start for the door, downing the rest of my coffee in two gulps and toss the cup away.

He asks me where I am heading as he heads to the door and I walk with him. He finishes his coffee and tosses it, while I still sip on mine. "Um, probably back to my apartment to get ready for work." I say and look at my watch. "Which I have to be ready for in thirty minutes and it takes fifteen minutes to get there."
I hadn't even how late it had gotten and it was already almost nine in the morning.

“Do you, ah, need I ride? I promise! Not trying to be creepy, just offering.” I nod to my motorcycle parked on the street by the corner. Then I run a hand through my hair, obviously way more nervous about coming off as creepy than anything.

I look at him surprised as he asks if I needed a ride and he wasn't being creepy. I chuckle as he runs his hand through his hair after nodding to a motorcycle outside.
"Well I would hope it wasn't to be creepy. Considering you'll be dropping me off at the police station for work." I say with a grin. "Would hate to have to arrest a pretty boy like you while I was off duty."

“So I take that as a yes?” I chuckle, grabbing the helmet off the seat. I offer it to her as I grab the spare from the hidden compartment below the seat.

He chuckles saying he takes that as a yes and offers me a helmet. I take it from him with a little smile as he grabs a spare. "Yes, I'll take you up on your ride pretty boy." I say as I strap it on.
Luckily I head some clothes at my office so I could change before work. After all the younger detective in the history of the state couldn't show up in her sweat pants and t-shirt.

I smirk as I pull the helmet on over my head and straddle the bike. “Hang on,” i suggest, the engine roaring to life as I zoom down the street. Sweet. I might even beat the mid morning traffic this time.

I roll my eyes as he tells me to hang on. I wrap my arms around his waist and hold onto him as he zips along the street. I can't help but smile a little. It had been a while since I had been on a bike. My ex had one and I enjoyed going on rides.

It takes at most 5 minutes to get to the police station - boom, another personal best! I park my bike in the back of the lot, in the more hidden part against the back of the building. Shutting off the engine I take off my own helmet and get hers, placing them both in the storage compartment. Helping her off the elevated seat I start for the door, my ID badge ready.

He takes off his helmet once he parks and I hand him mine before he helps me down. I look at him confused as he heads to the backdoor which is locked until I see his ID badge.
"Whoa whoa wait. You're a cop too!" I say surprised. I had never seen him at the station before so he had to be new.

I chuckle watching her expressions change. “I’m not a cop-cop, like field work. I’m a behavior analyst. A new one at that - at least in this region,” I explain with a smile, opening the door for her. “So, yeah, don’t worry about teaming up with me,” I tease.

He tells me he is not a cop- cop but a behavior analyst, a new one at that. He smiles and opens the door for me before he teases not to worry about teaming up with him. I roll my eyes a little and head inside to my office.

The door shuts behind me and locks. I flash my badge to the guard on duty and go to the men’s’ locker room, parting ways with Lani. Unlocking my locker I change out of my leather jacket and jeans into my dress pants and a button up shirt, then head up to my office

I head into my office and grab my spare outfit. I lock my door and close the blinds before changing into a pair of black dress pants, a white button up shirt and a black blazer. I re open everything and I hear the Captain call on me.
"Yes, sir?"
"Got a murder case for you, Clare. Looks like it might be a major magic user." He says and I look at him surprised.
There were three types of magic users. Non magic users who had no magic. Minor magic users who had smaller powers and could do small magic. They made up the majority of people. And then there was major magic users. These were the types of people who could control elemental, destroy cities and save many people. These types of people were rare. I myself was one on varying levels.

By the time I get to my office I’ve already got a stack of files on my desk thicker than a Stephen king book. I take a seat and start going through the cases but I don’t get too far before I’m interrupted by the head of my department. “Hey, rookie, they need assistance on a new case. This ones big - they’ve got a murder. It looks like a major magic user. You better get going,” she orders.
“Yes ma’am,” I reply, setting the other cases aside. Grabbing a notebook and a couple other things I make my way toward the chief’s office.

The captain gives me a file and tells me I'll have a partner on this one. "What? I don't need a partner, captain." I say looking at him and then look over at the door as someone opens it. I see Ezra and I sigh as look at him.
"Really, captain? How is the rookie going to be any help?"

I chuckle watching her expression change. “Nice to be working with you too, sweetheart,” I taunt her. “Believe it or not, I do my work decently. Now are we going to act like professionals and do some good here or is the Captain gonna have to make you play nice?” The Captain shoots me a glare. I just smirk.

He chuckles and taunts me saying it is good to be working with me too. He adds he does his work decently and asks if we are going to act like professionals and do some good here or is the Captain gonna have to make me play nice.
I glare at him and roll my eyes. "Don't forget who is the higher ranks here, rookie." I say and look at the Captain. "Do I really have to work with him?"
"Yes, now get going. You two are wasting time." He says. I huff and brush past Ezra as I head to go grab my keys to my car.

I follow Lani all the way out to the parking lot. “Where are you going? Wouldn’t it make more sense to work on the case in the office?” I question her, also wondering where does she think she’s going considering I gave her a ride.

I roll my eyes as he questions me about the case. "To my cop car." I tell him and rest a hand on my hip as I unlock it. "I don't do office when it comes to a case. I need to see the crime scene to see if I can pick up on anything."
I open my door and climb in before I push open the other side. "You coming or what, rookie? I don't slow down for the newbies so you better decide quickly."

“Yeah, yeah. Don’t get your panties in a wad,” I tease her as I slid in beside her into the passengers seat. I set my notebook and stuff on the floor and shit the door, buckling up and smiling like the cheeky bastard I am.

He teases me and tells me not to get my panties in a wad. I roll my eyes again as he gets in and buckles up. He smiles at me cheekily and shake my head.
"I'm so going to regret this." I mumble and pull out of the parking lot to head to the crime scene. "So tell me more about this analyst stuff you do." I say while I drive.

“It’s a lot like what you do. I look at the pieces of information given and try to build a profile based off that, and if accurate can predict the killers next moves,” I explain briefly, my gaze focused out the window as she drives us to the crime scene.

He tell me it is a lot like my work. He looks the pieces of information given and try to build a profile based off that, and if accurate can predict the killers next moves.
"Interesting... what led you to want to do that kind of work?" I ask as I drive.

I shrug, folding my hands in my lap. “I’d rather not get into it.” Even as the words come out I feel the familiar tingle in my fingertips. Squeezing my eyes shut I force the tingling back until I’m back in my own skin.

He shrugs and says he rather not get into it. I decide not to push it and just drive the rest of the way quietly. I park my car outside the site of the crime scene and get out.
"Come on, rookie." I tell him as I head into the building. I spot the door sealed off with police tape and duck under it to head inside.

I follow Lani at her heels and duck into the building under the police tape. The sharp metallic scent of blood fills my nostrils, followed by the slightest hint of something else. Almost like a campfire but not. The magic in my blood hummed. I seized again, forcing it back into a little box in the back of my mind.

The scent of blood overwhelms me. The floor spattered dark red where the body had been. The scent of magic was strong as well. I walk around the room looking for clues. Anything to tell me about who did this.
I lean down at the spot were the blood is and touch a finger to it. With my magic I could see just a minute or two of what the victim saw before their death.
My eyes become hazy and distant as I fall into the vision. There is a man. I can't make out his face. I beg for my life, to spare me. The man laughs and suddenly a burning feeling sets in and I claw at my skin. The pain worsen until I wish for death and then soon after it comes.
I pull away dazed and shake my head a little.

“Are you alright?” I ask watching Lani freeze up like a deer in the headlights. My eyes flicker all over the room, studying the blood splatters, the rooms condition, everything. Like a movie projector images start flashing in my mind. The details of the scene completing a short film of the murder behind my eyes — with the exception of the killer. I shake my head clear and focus back on the task at hand, jotting down everything in my notebook.
