Francisco Ponce palmero | 107 comments hi, there aren't a lot of Masterton books tranlated to Spanish, I only have read some short stories, The Manitou very good and Sleepless not so good. Which are his best books to start with? I prefer straight horror tan thrillers

Gerhard Family Portrait (1985) was a real page turner. I also liked Charnel House (1978).

I haven't read anything by him that I'm aware of but I'm following here for suggestions & such.

Simon Family Portrait is excellent, read The Mirror which was not so good. The Katy Maguire books are quite good too but more crime than horror.

ohh that sounds brutal.

Luvtoread (Trying to catch up) | 1944 comments I read the "Manitou" a long time ago but I remember it well, that's when I know how good a book really is when you remember so much about it years later. I sometimes forget about a title and contents of several books within a few weeks. I suppose they were that unremarkable!

I have. I thought it was a solid offering from the late 1970s. Here's my review.

We really need to remedy that, Latasha. Do I hear another Buddy Read? Lol

His Katie Maguire series is some of his best work, albeit more crime thrillers, but usually with a horror tilt to them. You do want to read them in order just because of character progression, but you don't absolutely have to, as each book is self-contained story.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 957 comments Graham Masterton has written some of the creepiest scenes I've read. I'm sure he has some stinkers but I've mainly stumbled upon his good stuff. His stuff is strangely psychologically surreal too. This reminds me I need to read more by him.

Christopher Williams (thewrongwriter) | 48 comments I could swear I've listened to a Graham Masterton story on a podcast. But for the life of me I can't recall which one. I checked Pseudopod's back catalog; it wasn't them (but it should have been!).

Anyone know of audio renditions of his works?

message 16: by M.E. (new)

M.E. | 409 comments A bunch of his books are available on audible.com.

My personal favourite so far is Famine. One could argue it is more of a thriller than horror, but imo the graphic descriptions qualify it as horror as well.

Karen (hmssparky) | 200 comments All Masterton's books are excellent! I am a huge fan of his Manitou books, and have enjoyed his Dream Warrior novels also.
