How it works:
Each team will be dealt 5 of these categories/cards randomly at the beginning of the challenge (Using random.org). Each team must then read books which match these descriptions.
(Cards will be dealt once review threads are created, so that your team has time to plan what books they need to read.)

Once 4 books have been completed for the same description, this category/card is completed, and the team will receive 10 bonus points. They will also be assigned a new category/card using random.org. (As categories are picked using random.org, teams may be assigned the same category/card more than once during the challenge.)
Each team will also receive 4 'passes' for if they get a category that they really don't think they'll be able to complete. You only get 4 of these though, so choose wisely ☺

Rules/Guidelines:
* Books must be read between the 1st of April to the 30th of April inclusive. Books started before April may be used to claim points for pages read in April, but will not count towards crossing off any categories/cards.
* Books must be over 100 pages long, without illustrations. (150 pages minimum for middle-grade books, 300 pages minimum for poetry or books written in verse. Please note that as per our normal rules, poetry and books written in verse will only score 1/3 of the normal points due to reduced word count. So 300 pages = 1 point.)
* You are welcome to read physical books, ebooks, and audiobooks for this challenge, and you are also welcome to read in any language as long as you provide us with an English translation of your review/updates either as part of your review, on your team's review thread, or by personal message to either Abbie or myself.
* If for any reason you are unable to publish your review on Goodreads, it can also be sent to either myself or Abbie via personal message. Please let us know that you will be doing this before you do it though, and please continue to post on your team's review thread as normal, and stating 'review sent to Sarah/Abbie by personal message' after 'Review:'.
* Re-reads are allowed as long as it has been at least a year since you last read the book, and you write a new review or updates.
*A review or 4 detailed updates will be required for each book read.
*Buddy reads must have a minimum of 4 comments to count, and comments must be detailed, and about the book.
* Buddy reads must take place within this group (YA Buddy Readers' Corner ♥) to gain the extra points.
* Any member of the team can read for each category/card, even if they have already read a book which completes this same category/card. For example; if 'Tina' had already read a book for 'Yellow 4' - Read books with a female main character.', as long as the category/card hadn't already been completed, it would be fine for her to continue to read books for this category/card.
* There are no set books which need to be read, any book matching the card's description will count, so books can be chosen by the reader. Please check with us before reading if you are unsure whether your book counts or not.
* All categories will be picked using random.org. As categories are picked using random.org, teams may be assigned the same category more than once during the challenge.
* Teams will not receive two categories which are the same at the same time though (so if your team already has the 'blue one' category/card, and random.org selects it again, then random.org will be used a second time to select a different category for you so you have two different ones. This does not affect wildcard categories/cards though. If your team is lucky enough to get 2 wildcards at the same time, then you will get to keep them.)
* Team's are given 4 'Passes' to pass on categories that they do not think they'll be able to complete. Each team will only receive 4 passes though, so choose wisely when using them.
* If a category/card has previously been passed using one of the team's 4 passes, and random.org selects it again, we will use random.org a second time to select a different category/card, so once you have passed on a category you will not get it again.
* 'A' and 'The' at the beginning of a title may be skipped if necessary, and the first letter of the next word used instead for categories/cards that ask you to read books starting with a specific letter.
* For categories/cards where you are asked for specific letters in a title, eg: 'A', 'R', and 'T', letters can be in any order as long as all 3 appear at least once in the books title.
* For categories/cards where you are asked for a specific word in a title eg: 'cell', the letters must appear in the title in the correct order. It is okay to use words which contain the word though, such as 'cellar', or 'excellent'.
* For categories/cards where you are asked for a specific word or for specific letters, the word or letters must appear in the title of the book, not including the series name, and not including any subheadings.
* Books do not have to be on specific lists unless specified in the categories/cards above. Most of the linked lists above are for guidance only, and if you find another book which is set in Canada for example, it is fine to use it for that category.
* If you are asked to find a book 'shelved' or 'tagged' with a particular word, then the book must have been tagged at least twice to count. (Tags can be found under the 'Genres' heading on the right hand side of your chosen book's Goodreads page. Clicking on 'See top shelves...' will allow you to see all the tags for a particular book.)
* If you are asked to read a book with a particular character name (such as 'Richard'), it must be one of the main characters, and ideally the name needs to appear in either the blurb or the 'characters' section of the books Goodreads page (or in at least 2 other people's reviews of that book).
* You can use other editions which have other titles, when looking for books whose titles contain specific letters, but only if the title is written using English letters, editions which are written using non-English letters won't count. For example, Thirteen Reasons Why would count for ' 'Blue 5 - Read books with the letters 'A', 'R', and 'T' in the title', but you couldn't use this edition Δεκατρία γιατί. If you are not using the standard edition of a book, please link to the edition that qualifies when posting your review.
* 'Skip' cards allow you to immediately skip to another category. If your team lands on this card, you will immediately earn 10 bonus points, and immediately receive another new category.
* If you receive a 'Skip' card, it will appear on your team's review thread crossed through, with the new category directly below it.
Eg:
8. Blue Seven - 'BLUE SEVEN' - Read books with an item of clothing on the cover (may be worn or unworn), or in the title.
* 'Reverse' cards mean that your team's new category/card will be a repeat of a category/card that you have already completed (you are going in reverse). This means that you will not be able to receive this card when you first get your first 5 cards at the start of the game. If you have only completed one category when you draw this card, you will repeat the category that you have completed. If you have completed more than one category when this card is drawn, we will use random.org to choose between them. This could be good or bad depending on what cards you have already completed!
* If you receive a 'Reverse' card, it will appear on your team's review thread like this -
45. Blue 'Reverse' - Play a previously completed category again.
-- 3. Blue Two - 'blue o two' - Read books with water on the cover, or in the title (eg: sea, river, lake, pond, ocean, rain) ( Swimmers on the Cover)
* 'Draw Two' cards allow you to get 2 new categories instead of 1! Your team will receive bonus points when each of these categories is completed, but you will only receive a new category once both are completed.
* If you receive a 'Draw Two' card, it will appear on your team review thread like this -
49. Blue 'Draw Two' - Get two new categories instead of one! Both categories will be from the blue cards, and will be chosen using random.org.:
-- 1. Blue Zero - 'Blue Zero vodka' - Read books which you got for free (for alcohol free).
-- 10. Blue Nine - 'Blue Nine Security' - Read books with the letters 'S', 'E', and 'C' in the title (for security). (Title must contain all 3 letters, but in any order.)
* 'Wild' Cards allow you to read any book, as long as it meets our usual challenge rules.
* 'Wild Draw Four' cards allow you to get 4 new categories instead of one! One of these categories is guaranteed to be a 'Wild' card. Your team will receive bonus points when each of these categories is completed, but you will only receive a new category once all four are completed.
*If you receive a 'Wild Draw Four' card, it will appear on your team review thread like this -
57. Wild Draw Four - Get four new categories instead of one! (And, one of these categories is guaranteed to be a Wild Card!)

* Higher page count editions may be used when claiming points for pages, but page counts for iphone/ibook editions will not be accepted, and neither will page counts for audiobook editions (you are still welcome to read in these formats, but must use a different page count). We also request that you leave us a link to the edition with the page count that you are using, if the book has multiple editions with different page counts.
* Please do not go back and alter posts once they have been counted, if you need to make a change, please make a new post on your team's review thread, with a link to your original post, and then explain the change, for example; a higher page count edition has been found, or a buddy read needs to be added, and please include links.
* If later in the game your team decides that you need to move books around a bit to fit a new book in, then that is possible, but requests need to be kept to within reason. To request a change, please make a new post on your team's review thread, include links to the original post for each book being moved, and let us know which category a book is moving from and to. The clearer your request is, the quicker we will be able to help you. Please do not go back and edit posts, and please bear in mind that if you move a book from a completed category and don't replace it with another book, then you will open that category again, and lose your 10 bonus points.
* Our regular challenge rules can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
*** If you are not sure if your book counts for the card you expect it to, please ask before you read it. Questions can either be posted on this thread, or sent by personal message to either myself or Abbie.***

Points:
* Points will be awarded based on pages read:
*100 - 199 pages = 1 point
*200 - 299 pages = 2 points
*300 - 399 pages = 3 points
*400 - 499 pages = 4 points
*500 - 599 pages = 5 points
*600+ pages = 6 points
(maximum of 6 points per book)(Minimum page count of 100 pages)
*Buddy reads DOUBLE your points score for pages, so a 300 page book + buddy read = 6 points. 600 page book + buddy read = 12 points. (Bonus points for buddy reads will only be given if the buddy read has taken place in our group.)
* 10 bonus points for the team for each category completed. (bonus points for completion of categories will be added to the team total only, not the individual participants totals.)
* Points will be awarded as buddy read points + page points. So The Host at 620 pages would be worth 6 points for the pages, 6 points for a buddy read. Giving you a total of 12 points.
* Books do not have to be buddy read, buddy reading just earns you more points. So The Host at 620 pages, without a buddy read, would be worth 6 points.
*Mods will keep track of each teams points, and cards, using the following system -
Team name:
This challenge will be a team challenge. When signing up please let us know if you want to join a 'Serious' team (reading 12 books or more each), a 'Medium' team (reading 8-12 books each) or a 'Just for fun' team (reading any number of books each).
Serious and Medium teams are now full. Anybody else who wants to sign-up or switch, will have to go solo until a spot opens up ☺
You may also sign up as a solo participant, and will compete against your other solo competitors, as well as those people in teams. Solo players will only receive 3 cards/categories each at a time, and will not receive bonus points for completion of categories/cards (as individuals within teams are not awarded bonus points either). An individual leaderboard will be published at the end of the challenge.
Teams should be posted by March 25th at the latest. If you wish to join a 'Serious' or 'Medium' team, please sign up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. You may join as a solo player, or join a fun team at any time.
***Please be sure that you want to participate if you are thinking of joining a 'Serious' or 'Medium' team, as your teammates will lose out if you sign up but don't participate.***
Thank you! ☺

I'll go for medium for now but I am considering trying serious this month.
Holy jeez sooo many categories. It'll be so hard to keep track! I skimmed past the Blue XD
Can we read for each card as often as we want? Or once it's done it' done? Some of those tasks seem tricky XD

It's more like Family Fortunes, your team will get 5 cards at a time, and you need to read 4 books for each card to cross them off. then there are bonus points for completing cards. and each team gets 4 passes for cards which they don't think they can complete ☺

Sign me up for serious! If possible, can I be put on a team with Clephiro? :D

Much as I want to go serious, those categories could be tough and it will definitely depend on teamwork. Great challenge, Sarah and Abbie, but how do you find the time to do this?
Will definitely take part, but need to have a proper look at the categories and think about my TBR pile and see how it fits before I sign up (agh!)

Er, she hasn't signed up yet, so I can't really promise anything.

I know I have. I couldn't remember which one but I thought it was one of the February valentine challenges. I have done Family Fortune though so maybe that was it. :)

That's the reason why I'm debating going serious, because serious members are reliable.

That's one of the reasons I like to go serious as well. :)

I've got like 70 books I want to read. lol

They let you know the categories at least a couple of days before the challenge so you have time to plan. Who is on your team is crucial though as you really need to plan well. ^-^

This is why I love how I've gotten into audio :p Even if I don't care about the book, I can have it on in the background doing other things and don't have to read the physical.

Karen, I really can't guarantee that you'll be on an active team if you sign up as just-for-fun. It's even harder to predict who will actually turn up in the fun teams.

This will be a team reading challenge which will run from April 1st 2018, to April 30th 2018 inclusively. Results will be annouced on May 1st 2018.
To complete this challenge, participants will be split into teams. Each team will read books of their own choice (which fit the challenge categories/cards), and points will be awarded based on the length of the book, and whether you have buddy read your book. Points are also awarded when categories/cards are completed.
This challenge will have a list of categories, based on the 108 cards in an Uno deck. (Please note - there are not 108 categories because some cards in an Uno deck are duplicated.) Each category will be linked to a real-life representation of each Uno card, with corresponding descriptions of what sort of books you need to read to complete each category/card.
