QBQ! The Question Behind the Question question

Hi All,

I am looking for the name and author of a book I read a while ago. I think it is a lesbian book but not really sure.
It is about a woman who comes or lives in a small town and she trains dogs there to guard the homes there. All of a sudden jewelry and items start to disappear and she gets blamed for it.
That is all that I remember.
