Jess (coffeeshopthrillers) | 33 comments Hi! My name is Jess. I came back to GR after a 5 year hiatus, so I'm not a newbie to GR. I reside in Tennessee, in the States where I teach Middle School. I've been reading Mysteries since the age of 3, with my first being a Nancy Drew Mystery. I've been hooked ever since. I organize my own local book club, Clarksville Coffee Shop Mysteries. We are now voting on our BOTM for August but I do plan to join you all in reading Lisa Jewell's Then She Was Gone.

Nicholas George (nickinpasadena) | 1 comments Hi. My name is Nick, and I live in Pasadena CA with my husband (and partner of 40 years). I started writing mysteries a few years back, was lucky enough to get a good agent, and just accepted a publishing deal for the first three books in my series. (Still can't believe it!) The books are "traditional" mysteries taking place in England, but I'm working on a second series that is pure cozy.

message 605: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Jess: Welcome and awesome! LoL I did the same thing and am glad I came back since Goodreads rocks, hope it's the same case with you. I grew up with mostly horror and mystery as I just got back into mystery a few months ago :-)

message 606: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Nick: Welcome and wow, 40 YEARS!?!?! Much respect, I hope to achieve that one day with my wife (known her for 13 years, dating for 7 years, married for 2 years) but wow, much respect for being a mystery writer! Good luck with your second series :-)

Jennifer D. (booknerdjen13) Hi I'm Jen. I'm 40 with a 3 kiddos(6, 5 and 3), a ton of fur babies and a sweet husband. I'm a stay at home mom. I read all sorts, but big on thrillers, spooky and true crime. I've recently discovered podcasts, so listen to those nearly everyday. Currently read The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St James. Nice to meet you!

message 610: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Jen: Welcome and very awesome! No kids here but have a fur baby by the name of Ozzy Skywalker and he's a cockapoo! Also married to my wife whom I've known for over 14 years and is my best friend :-D

Love horror, mystery, thrillers, and suspense. That's awesome you recently discovered podcasts, I listen to "The Loser's Club" religiously as it's my favorite. Looking forward to future discussions with you and here's to a great rest of the weekend!

Chewable Orb | 1 comments Hi everyone, my name is Chris and I am an American living in Norway for the past decade with my wife, 3 kids, dog and a cat. I have loved reading ever since I was young and have recently tried getting back in the habit. I am using Goodreads as a motivational tool to read more and also a resource for more great novels to uncover. I love basically all genre but find the Fantasy and Mystery/Thrillers are my favorite😁

message 629: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Chewable Orb: Welcome and very awesome! I also have a dog and have loved reading all my life. I did take a very long break from it but thanks to the pandemic and having to stay indoors more, I've picked it back up and have been loving it all over again :-)

Looking forward to future discussions with you on all the wonderful mystery novels that await!

message 630: by Ellie (last edited Aug 25, 2022 04:31AM) (new)

Ellie | 56 comments Hi, my name's Ellie!

I'm a computer science major in college. I've always love mysteries, and I've always loved reading, but I've only been reading mystery novels for about a year.

Some of my favorite authors are Agatha Christie, Douglass Preston, and Seishi Yokomizo.

Aside from reading, I enjoy playing video games, watching anime, metal music, and am an all around cat person <3

message 631: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Ellie: Welcome and so awesome! I was also a Computer Information Science major in college as well! I grew up with mostly horror and mystery so I totally know how you feel. Looking forward to future discussions with you, great list of authors, by the way :-)

I'm also a huge gamer and metalhead! Are you a PC gamer? Into thrash metal as well? \m/

Thank you! I do game mostly on PC, though I don't really play a huge variety. Mostly just Minecraft lol.

As for metal, I don't really pay attention to subsections. I pretty much listen to a little bit of everything, though my all-time favorite band is Rammstein. A close second favorite is Ghost.

message 633: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Ellie: You're very welcome and awesome! PC MASTER RACE! LoL I never got into Minecraft but know how popular and amazing it is. I'm more into CS:GO, FPS games, and all the games in my Steam Library I've had for well over 16 years now.

I loved both new albums this year by Rammstein and Ghost. My top three all-time favorite bands are Slayer, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden! I also love Rammstein, Ghost, Kreator, Testament, Metallica, and so many other metal bands :-D

Dawn (dawnevans1) | 2 comments Hello! I'm Sunny from Northern Virginia. I am a big horror fan but due to one Cleo Coyle I've been sucked into the Mystery and Thriller world as well! I don't know anyone in the area, so I figured an online group might give me somewhere to chat about the really interesting ones. Happy to be involved!

message 638: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Sunny: Welcome and awesome! I also love horror and enjoy dabbling into mystery, suspense, and thrillers! You'll love this group, it rocks :-)

message 639: by Chelle (new)

Chelle | 3 comments Hello, everyone! I'm Michelle, but you can call me Chelle if you'd like :) I'm 27, from the UK and I'm in my final year of a degree with the Open University. I'm new to Goodreads, but I've been reading since I was a teenager. I'm the daughter of two bookworms who introduced me to authors like Márquez and Hamsun. As for my preferences, I like a bit of everything within reason, but gravitate more towards psychological thrillers, mysteries and crime. And I must admit I'm often guilty of choosing a book purely based on its cover! Anyway, I'm looking forward to our discussions and getting to know some of you. :D

message 640: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Chelle: Welcome and that's awesome! Good luck with the final year of your degree, how exciting! Great genres to read there, I'm mostly horror and mystery :-)

message 641: by Chelle (new)

Chelle | 3 comments Thanks, LTJ! I'm just getting into horror. I'm not that great with horror movies even though I want to watch them so I thought next best thing would be reading horror instead :D

message 642: by Rob (new)

Rob | 1 comments Greetings Group,
Hi, I’m Rob. I live just to the west of Chicago and spend my days working as a payroll clerk. My passion and that of my wife is making furniture; of which the house now abounds and has become a small business enterprise (we sell to friends and friends of friends). My wife’s family has a long military history; she was USAF and how we met. I did some time in the British Army (The Pay Corps). We read in our down-time, more so now the boys are getting ready to flit the roost. We tend towards good quality thrillers, espionage and political intrigue. Most of our friends and neighbours spend their time in front of the ‘box’ so we decided to take the step and join an online book club. Any recommendation will be gratefully received.

message 643: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1 comments The husband (Mike) and I have retired early from the city and now live in a lush, green, rainy, valley of Wales. We never did enjoy the city too much and the arrival of Covid gave us time to assess our situation. We read and have done for years and years and, over wine and nibbles, prior to Covid we’d discuss our book choices with a group of good friends. Now, without that indulgence we decided - on advice from a good friend - to join an online bookclub. Our best wishes to all.

message 644: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Chelle: Anytime, my new friend! LoL smart idea to go into reading horror than watching it, honestly, the majority of times the book is better than the adaptation.

message 645: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Rob: Welcome and wow, that's pretty cool! You came to the right place as yeah, I know what you mean. Most of my friends are into gaming and some into reading (even comic books) as this book club rocks :-)

message 646: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Helen: Welcome and wow, now that's an awesome thing to do with your husband. Always a great idea to join a book club, especially this one. I found so many new authors and novels here it's been such a joy :-)

message 647: by Chelle (new)

Chelle | 3 comments Yeah sadly I find that to be the case with most books, LTJ. I read Where the Crawdads Sing in 2 days I absolutely loved it but I refuse to watch the movie that’s just come out because I don’t want my experience with the book ruined lol

Welcome Helen and Rob! Hope you’re well x

message 648: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Chelle: LoL yeah, I know what you mean. Reminds me of the recent "Firestarter" movie or TV show, whatever it is, that got terrible reviews yet the book is a classic. I'm the same way, I'd rather watch original horror movies than any adaptations because 95% of the time they're bad.

message 649: by Nora (new)

Nora Currie Hi everyone! I’m Nora and I love mysteries! My favorite are historical and true crime mysteries but I also love to branch out in other mystery genres! I look forward to getting to know all of you guys!

message 650: by LTJ (new)

LTJ (ltj81) @Nora: Welcome, Nora! LoL so glad you're also in this group, I've read many mystery gems from here and welcome you with iced lattes and fun reading adventures ahead :-D
