Rob McInroy Hello everyone.

Scottish writer living in England (Yorkshire) here. My first novel, Cuddies Strip, was published by Ringwood Publishing this month, a fictionalised account of true crimes in Perthshire in 1935. I'm currently writing the follow-up.

I guess my favourite crime novels are Golden Age, people like John Dickson Carr (and especially his Carter Dickson pseudonym). In thrillers, I'm more modern in my taste, Michael Connelly, Harlan Coben etc.

Anyway, nice to be here. Looking forward to getting some good recommendations.

The Nine Tailors is a wonderful novel. There's so much incidental detail that doesn't detract from the mystery but gives such a strong sense of place.

Michelle (shelleydippity) | 3 comments Hi Everyone! I'm a Scientist from Florida that enjoys this genre of books, along with Medical Thrillers. This is the first month I'm participating in this group. I finished The Whisper Man last week (I liked it overall), and I'm about halfway through The Night Raven. I don't think they are books that I was likely to run into and pick out on my own, but I like that this group is making me step outside of the usual authors I read. Thanks for the suggestions so far! Seems like you guys have a great group going.

I read The Whisper Man too. Did you join us in the discussion thread? I'd love to know what you think about some of the spoilers that are posted there. I would have never read it either.

Oh and hello and welcome :)

message 431: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Roberts (laurie_b_roberts) Hi everyone

My reading goes in fits and starts according to work and other commitments!

I like reading books that help explore what drives people to do the things they do (more pretentiously, books that explore 'the human condition').
So I'm interested in books that explore and educate on people's beliefs, thoughts, feelings, motivations etc.

I read various books about Christianity but I also enjoy novels too including detective fiction as I find these too explore motivations that drive people! I also like the challenge of trying to 'solve' the puzzle (which I rarely do...)

Laurie

Hi Laurie. The "trying to solve" is what it's all about for me too.

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 157 comments Hello, everyone! I'm Woman Reading or WR in the US. When the pandemic stress increased last summer, I binge read urban fantasy, even though crime fiction has been the genre I've read the longest, starting with Nancy Drew books. It's a new year - happy 2021! - so I thought it was time to join and seek new ideas and other avid readers.

Subhajit Pal | 3 comments Hi, I am Subhajit. I mostly read crime thrillers, but sometime I love to take a break and try out other other genres. I started out my mystery reading with the great "Sherlock Holmes". Also I am a huge fan of spy thriller. My best spy thriller till now is "Eye of the needle" which I read last year. I also love Ed Brubakar's crime graphic novels. Any Ed Brubakar's fan here?

message 445: by James (new)

James Tidd | 230 comments Yes, Eye of the Needle is a great book. I recommend that you try the 39 steps by John Buchan. I haven't heard of Ed Brubakar.

Sherlock Holmes is hard to beat. I'll have to look into Eye of the Needle and 39 Steps. I love a good spy mystery.

Karen Margosian | 4 comments I'm Karen. I am new to Goodreads groups, and just joined this month. I was born in Cleveland Oh, lived in Boston, Ma, and in Erlangen, Germany. I've always loved mysteries and thrillers. My first mysteries were, of course, Nancy Drew. By 6th grade, I had read all the Sherlock Holmes stories. My introduction to thrillers was Ludlum's Matarese Circle and I've been hooked ever since! For some reason, I have not been reading as much as I would like to. That's why I joined and set an achievable goal of 2 books per month. In addition to mysteries and thrillers, I also enjoy history, biography, nonfiction, and crime. I'm looking forward to the postings.
