Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): 31. A book mentioned in another book (Anne of Green Gables)
I loved this prompt last year too for the advanced challenge, and I'm glad it made an appearance in the regular challenge this year! It got a little tricky since I had planned on reading Anne of Green Gables for 33. A childhood classic you've never read, but it was mentioned in the book I read for 14. A book by an author of a different ethnicity than you (The Wedding Date). It all worked out though, and I'm glad I finally read Anne of Green Gables!

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): The Hating Game (37. A book you meant to read in 2017 but didn't get to)
I actually added this to my TBR list when I saw it was a finalist in the Romance category of the Goodreads Choice awards in 2016, and I kept meaning to read it but I never got around to it. I saw it pop up again during Goodreads Romance week this year, so I finally read it and loved it! It's been one of my favorite books this year and I cannot wait for the author's new one in Jan!

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: Before We Were Yours (35. A past Goodreads Choice Awards winner)
The Goodreads Choice Awards season is one of my favorite times of the year, and while this was actually a more difficult prompt for me since I had read so many of the winners from previous years already, I loved that it forced me to read books I hadn't really considered reading. The book I read, Before We Were Yours, was something I passed over when it came out last year but I am so glad I read it, it was a 5 star read for me and I totally see why it was voted as the winner!

Least favorite prompt: 29. A book about or set on Halloween
They keep doing holidays, and while I LOVE Halloween, I've read a bunch already for it so I'm running out of books I actually want to read! I also feel like the prompt is really specific, I wish it was something more open ended like "spooky read" or "something with witches."

Prompt you hope to see again: 6. A novel based on a real person
I love historical fiction so this was an easy pick for me! There are so many good novels based on real people, so I would love to read more!

Last prompt you finished: 29. A book about or set on Halloween- The Halloween Tree
I just can't read Halloween books if it's not at least fall, it’s a pet peeve of mine.

Finally, are you in for 2019? Of course! This was Year #3 for me so I'm all in!

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book about a problem facing society today. An American Marriage Even though I disliked most of the characters, I found the writing so beautiful and the characters so real that this book has stayed with me.

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): This is a tough one but I'll go with The Night Circus which I read for the book with twins. The imagery was so incredible that I really began to feel that the circus was a real place and that it would show up in my city!

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: Probably The Bell Jar. It had been on my list for years and I am so glad I finally read it.

Least favorite prompt: A book involving a heist. It took me forever to find something I thought I'd like and in the end, I did not like it at all. Artemis

Prompt you hope to see again: A book set in a country that fascinates you.

Last prompt you finished: A bestseller from the year you graduated high school.

Finally, are you in for 2019? More than likely. I may do an abbreviated version since I have some other challenges planned and I don't want to set myself up for failure.

Chrissi (clewand84) | 238 comments WHOOO HOOO!

Alright, I'm so happy I'm finished. I feel rather accomplished for having finished the 50/50 in between jobs and moving countries this year. I never get above 30ish books in a year, and this year I've managed up to 70 with the help of PopSugar and having access to a big English-language library again! This has been the thing to keep my reading life going - and challenged me to find and read so many books I otherwise might have missed. The weekly check-ins and discussions have been fantastic to keep me charging ahead. Congrats to everyone finished (and to everyone who will finish it)!

Date you finished: Oct. 1st

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): 910 (as of 10/1)

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): prompt: A toss-up between "A book made into a movie you've already seen" (Crazy Rich Asians) and "A book set in a country that fascinates you" (Tangerine).

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): A Night Divided (a book with a time of day in the title)

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Least favorite prompt: a cyberpunk book

Prompt you hope to see again: A microhistory

Last prompt you finished: A book with a female author who uses a male pseudonym

Finally, are you in for 2019? YES, absolutely.

Favourite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book tied to your ancestry - The Golem and the Jinni.

Favourite book (and what prompt was it for?): Circe for a book that's published in 2018. The Golem and the Jinni for a book tied to your ancestry. Into the Drowning Deep for a book set at sea (my guilty pleasure choice).

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer

Least favourite prompt: A cyberpunk book (Neuromancer) or a book from a celebrity book club (In a Dark, Dark Wood).

Prompt you hope to see again: A book published in the current year.

Last prompt you finished: A book about feminism.

Finally, are you in for 2019? Yes, definitely!

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book with a fruit or vegetable in the title...The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): Death's Acre, A Microhistory. I'm fascinated by forensics and the story of the Body Farm was a sure thing for me.

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: Remnant Population. I loved the concept of an elderly woman choosing to end her life totally alone and then finding a new family unexpectedly.

Least favorite prompt: A book set in the decade you were born. Looking back, the 1970s are such a letdown sandwiched between the fabulousness of the 60s and the 80s.

Prompt you hope to see again: A Book with Alliteration in the Title or A Book by Two Authors. Both of these fit my favorite author and I still have several of these titles to go.

Last prompt you finished: A Best Seller from the Year you graduated High School

Finally, are you in for 2019? Absolutely.

Jen (jentrewren) Finally!
Date you finished: Today 04/10/18 (Aus/UK way round)

Message number of your list post (if you've got one):949 but will keep adding if I read something which would fit a prompt better than what I have.

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?):Cyberpunk, didn't even know it was a separate category but ended up with 2 for it 1) The Feed by Nick Clark Windo https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
2) LIFEL1K3 (Lifelike #1) by Jay Kristoff https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
or animal in the title which I have 3 for.

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): I had 3 5* reads during the challenge: The Big Bang by Simon Singh (meant to read in 2017, and 16 and 15), 13 reasons why by Jay Asher (death or Grief) and The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin(book into movie)
Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: Probably would still have Big Bang sitting on my TBR as it took a while to get into and I had tried several times but was finally motivated to give it a proper chance by the challenge. Also Darlingest Milverton in The War I would not have read but for the challenge and I did love reading about my aunts and uncles as little kids causing mischief (they are all 80+ now) even if I didn't like the whole book.

Least favorite prompt: Feminism. Not saying I agree with the way women are treated by some but I'm over people getting aggro over it. Catch more flies with honey and all that.

Prompt you hope to see again: Favourite from a previous year....yes it is a cop out but they won't give me cyberpunk again will they (since most seemed to hate it)?

Last prompt you finished: male pseudonym. Why bother if everyone knows who you are anyway?

Finally, are you in for 2019? probably but if there is too much focus on feminism or romance I'm out or will only do part.

Favourite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): Set in a company that fascinates you - I read A Company of Swans (set in Brazil)

Favourite book (and what prompt was it for?): Temeraire for ugly cover

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: Record of a Spaceborn Few (and the sequels too)

Least favourite prompt: Bestseller from the year I graduated. I had zero appealing options. I read The Kite Runner and hated it

Prompt you hope to see again: I'd prefer not to repeat any but set in a country that fascinates you is good because there are so many options

Last prompt you finished: A book you've seen someone reading in public. This should have been easy because I have been in and out of doctor's appointments, two holidays and I take public transport every day but I just never saw anything I had any interest in reading. I ended up looking at pictures on Instagram for a book I wanted to read just to get the challenge over and done with. Luckily I loved the book I picked - The Girl in the Tower

Finally, are you in for 2019? Should be

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): The Heart's Invisible Furies (A book with an LGBTQ+ protagonist),
Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: The Door (A book tied to your ancestry, translated from Hungarian)
Least favorite prompt: A bestseller from the year you graduated high school --All the books I investigated were 800+ pages and seemed so dated and wordy and unexciting. So I settled on this novella which I had enjoyed reading when I was 17. I wanted to see how it felt reading it again at 64. (Jonathan Livingston Seagull)
Prompt you hope to see again: A book about a problem facing society today.
Last prompt you finished: A bestseller from the year you graduated high school
Finally, are you in for 2019? Absolutely! It will be my 3rd year, and hopefully the second when I actually complete it (first year I did not finish, but this year I was determined!).

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?) A book that was being read by a stranger in a public place-
Eleanor of Aquitaine: A Life I liked it best because I met a nice old man at Barnes and Noble. Eleanor was a relative of his, and we had a nice talk.

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for? Ready Player OneA cyberpunk book

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? I tried to pick books I wanted to read, so probably Eleanor of Aquitaine: A Life because I had no control over it and I did like it.

Least favorite prompt: A bestseller from the year you graduated high school - I picked a book that was emotionally exhausting
The Hillside Stranglers

Prompt you hope to see again: A book published in the year of the challenge

Last prompt you finished: A book involving a heist Artemis

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book set in a country that fascinates you--How the Irish Saved Civilization

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?):Artemis--a book involving a heist

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: I think all the books I *really* loved were ones I would have gotten to eventually, but enjoy the book I found for 'stranger reading in public' and I never would have known it existed if not for this prompt--Sir Knight of the Splendid Way

Least favorite prompt: I'm not a fan of the prompts that are so specific it can be hard to find something in it to fit your taste (I'm looking at you Nordic Noir) and I wasnt' really looking forward to the feminism prompt either, but I did manage to find something for every prompt that I didn't hate, so I can't complain too much.

Prompt you hope to see again: Microhistory and anything that makes us read more about different countries and cultures

Last prompt you finished: book about feminism

Finally, are you in for 2019? Probably. I really enjoy the challenge, I just need to figure out a good way to balance it so it doesn't distract me from other reading goals and aspirations I have. Even when I was reading off-challenge this year I felt some pressure on my reading life because of it.

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: The Book Thief, which I read for the prompt "A book that involves a bookstore or library"

Least favorite prompt: A cyberpunk book. I read Snow Crash. I am just not at all into this genre and hated this book.

Prompt you hope to see again: A book by an author of a different ethnicity than you (I read Americanah and loved it)

Last prompt you finished: The next book in a series you started. I hadn't started any series, so I used the first book in a series, Rabbit, Run

Finally, are you in for 2019? Heck yes!

message 66: by Erin (new)

Erin (erinlovescats) | 25 comments Date you finished: September 30th but I just found this thread today! LOL

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): I think my favorite prompt was the book by a local author. I might feel differently if this hadn't led me to discover such a delightful book, lol, but I really enjoyed finding authors from my home state. It was a fun process. I ended up reading Dear Fahrenheit 451: Love and Heartbreak in the Stacks: A Librarian's Love Letters and Breakup Notes to the Books in Her Life
and it is truly a delight. I actually bought a copy for my sister as her birthday gift because I loved the book so much and wanted to share it with her.

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): Hmmmm, it's really hard to choose a favorite...I am going to go with All the Ugly and Wonderful Things. This was a very difficult story to digest but it is extremely important and beautifully written. I felt such a wide range of emotions while reading this. I chose it for the book about a problem facing society today, as it deals with drug use and poverty.

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: YES! I was not excited about the book about sports prompt. I had no desire to read Beartown and in general this prompt just inspired boredom...but a friend recommended The Art of Fielding and I decided to give it a try. It's about baseball, which I have ZERO interest in, but it's also a coming of age/college story and the characters were interesting. I was quickly sucked in and I didn't even mind the parts about sports, LOL. It's a great book and I'm sure I never would have read it if not for this challenge.

Least favorite prompt: A bestseller from the year you graduated high school. This prompt felt limiting and I had a really hard time finding anything other than Harry Potter or Dan Brown books. I ended up choosing The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. I haven't read a lot of Stephen King but I figured that he's so prolific, it would have to be good. Nope nope nope. It was pretty annoying and dumb but at least it was short. Also, I thought the main character was going to be a fan of race car driving but it turns out, that was Jeff Gordon. LOL...Tom Gordon was a baseball player...so it seems I read two books related to baseball, which is hilarious since I really don't care about baseball! This category was a good reminder that plenty of mediocre books end up on the best seller list.

Prompt you hope to see again: I'll be happy to see the return of the cyberpunk category or the micohistory category because those genres do interest me but I don't necessarily gravitate towards them on my own. This year I used Warcross as my cyberpunk book (loved it) and The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women (interesting topic but the book dragged a bit) as my microhistory.

Last prompt you finished: I had a difficult time deciding on a book written by a female author under a male pseudonym, so it ended up being the last book of my challenge. I went with In Farleigh Field by Rhys Bowen. It was a cozy mystery and I enjoyed it. I sometimes forget that I like this genre, so the prompt ended up being a delightful surprise. My library has quite a few other Bowen mysteries so I will probably be reading more by this author.

Finally, are you in for 2019? I'm definitely going to participate again. I was uncertain about committing for 2018 and it ended up being such a great endeavor. I can't wait to see the prompts for next year and I'm really excited to plan some of reading!

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): I Still Dream by James Smythe (book with song lyrics in the title) and The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin (allegory).

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: I wouldn't say loved but I liked Dark Pines by Will Dean (Nordic noir) enough that I'll probably read the next book in the series.

Least favorite prompt: Bestseller from the year I graduated high school, it was just an uninspiring selection especially as I didn't want to re-read anything. The personal style prompts are my least favourite in general.

Prompt you hope to see again: Book I meant to read the year before because I always have loads of these!

Last prompt you finished: A book set on Halloween (The Halloween Tree).

Finally, are you in for 2019? I loved the group motivation so yes, although I won't fully commit until I see the prompts.

Yay I finished! I'm a little surprised at what a RELIEF it is to know, since there wasn't really any doubt that I would finish, but yet that last challenge category kept haunting me.

Date you finished: 8/30/18 (but I didn't realize I'd read a book that qualified for my last open category until last night, 10/17/18)

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): 68

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): either "a novel based on a real person" (I read An Extraordinary Union) or "a book with song lyrics in the title" (I read It Happened on Love Street). Even though I really enjoyed looking for books with song lyrics in the titles, I don't really want to see that category again, because it was fun to search, but it doesn't really lead to great books.

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): Hahaha I can't pick just one, so here are my top four, in no order:
Provenance (heist)
The Shining Girls (time travel)
Gemina (two authors)
Moxyland (cyberpunk)
LOL all four books are SciFi, and two of them are by the same author (Lauren Beukes), so I guess you can tell what kind of book I like best.

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: not really, which is a surprise, because there usually is that ONE standout that I never would have read otherwise. Out of the books that I probably would not have read if not for the Challenge, the one I liked best was Ella Minnow Pea: A Novel in Letters (It was already on my TBR, but honestly I probably never would have gotten around to reading it.) Runner up would be Mortality (again, on my TBR, but ... I probably never would have read it).

Least favorite prompt:
book by a local author - I LOATHED this book, and as a result I think this is the prompt I hated most. If this category shows up again, I'm just reading a book by an author from my state, which includes NYC, and thus is rich in authors.

And because I could not pick just one, here are three more categories I hated:
a book turned into a stage play (trying to find one I wanted to read was absolutely painful)
a book given to me as a gift (ugh. just ugh)
Goodreads Choice Award (this ended up being one of my worst reads)
allegory (I still don't understand what an allegory is)

Prompt you hope to see again: a book published in the current year, and microhistory (I added A LOT of books to my TBR while researching microhistories!!)

Last prompt you finished: a book given to you as a gift - please never again with this prompt.

Finally, are you in for 2019? Yes! of course!!

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book involving a sport

I read a bunch of football memoirs this year actually (the global kind; not American football). Initially I had slotted Red: My Autobiography for this, but then moved it to color and used Forward: A Memoir for the prompt. I also ended up adding a bunch of football books to my TBR too - and not just memoirs.

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): The Great Indian Novel

I read this for the A book tied to your ancestry prompt. I had heard about this book for a long time, but for some reason always avoided it - I had definitely been missing out.

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? Wonder Woman: Warbringer

I really don't do super heroes/heroines, but it fit the alliteration prompt so perfectly that I decided to give it a try :) Ultimately used it for the Celebrity Book Club prompt though.

Least favorite prompt: A book from a celebrity book club

Thank goodness for Emma Watson, but I really don't care what celebrities are reading. The gift one was bad too - I'm with Nadine on this one, please never again. And of course, there's the "namesake author" prompt - PopSugar insists on having a varation each year for some reason *eye roll*.

Prompt you hope to see again: Your favorite prompt from the previous years' challenges

I like wildcard prompts - 'read a book you like' would be ideal, but the meta prompt works well too.

Last prompt you finished: Author with same first/last name.

Took me forever to find a book that interested me for this one. I almost gave up and re-read a book I dislike (গল্পমালা - it is a very famous book, but I hated it when I read it years ago). But then serendipity led me to a book I ended up enjoying a lot, so it all worked out ;)

Amazon Prime introduced Prime Reading in my country, so was browsing the catalog. Stumbled upon The Past As Present: Forging Contemporary Identities Through History, so came to GoodReads to look at the reviews. Found a review that mentioned other famous Indian historians - and one of them shared my last name. So went and googled his writings, and found The World in Our Time: A Memoir, and then found he had originally written this memoir in Bengali too as বাঙালনামা - read and LOVED it! Universe has a strange way of leading me to books!

Finally, are you in for 2019? Yes. I enjoy the discoveries reading challenges lead me on :-) Though based on work load, might have to slow down and do only a partial challenge - we'll see.

Prompt you hope to see again: Book you meant to read in (2018)

Same!!! I read that for the Challenge a few years ago, when the category was "title with antonyms" - I was SO surprised at how much I loved that book! I've since read several more by the author. This is the sort of happy surprise that keeps me coming back to the challenge year after year!

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book about time travel. I read The Jane Austen Project I love Jane Austen so I was probably destined to love this book but I found it so fun to imagine what she must have been like. Plus, I love time travel books (Dr. Who is one of my favorite shows) so that was such a fun element too. There was a lot of kind of dark prompts this year so I loved having a fun book to read.

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet for a book that takes place on another planet. I loved this one so much I read the second one for a book in a series! Another fun, charming sci-fi read. I can't wait to read the third! I haven't been much of a sci-fi reader but the prompts on this year's challenge helped me discover how much I love sci-fi books!

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: Beartown I don't enjoy sports or reading about sports so this one was a fun surprise. I loved it! I'm planning on reading some of his other books now that I have completed the challenge.

Least favorite prompt: Book by with song lyrics in the title. I liked the book I read (All the Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation) but it was pain to find something I was interested in.

Prompt you hope to see again: I liked a novel about a real person. I love historical fiction but this more specific prompt encouraged to find sometime more informative. (Rebel Queen)

Last prompt you finished: Book that is mentioned in another book (Gone with the Wind) They talked about it A LOT in Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood which was another book I read this year.

Finally, are you in for 2019? Yes! I absolutely loved it because it forced me to read several things I wouldn't normally read. This means that I have discovered some new books and genres that I now love. Hurray!

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book mentioned in another book, it made the whole year like a scavenger hunt although I did not necessarily love the book I ended up reading which was The Moon and Sixpence
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): A Storm of Swords I used it for a book with a weather element in the title
Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: Yes there were a few including the whole Song of Ice and Fire series and Beartown
Least favorite prompt: Nordic noir. Since I already read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series I felt I was left with no good options.
Prompt you hope to see again: A book with an author of a different ethnicity, I had many good options that I didn't get to yet
Last prompt you finished: Book with song lyrics in the title

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): I had several, but #7 "A book set in a country that fascinates you" was educational -- even though it wasn't one of my favorite books I learned about a period of time that I knew little about. Wow, I didn't think I'd achieve this at all, and we're only in mid-November and I've managed both the regular (42 version) and advanced list...plus a few extra books as well. My mind is pretty blown right now. I tried the challenge in 2017 and only managed 30 books, so I was dubious about even getting the regular prompts completed.

My passion for reading has been reignited by this experience. I'm currently on book 57 of the year, and before that my record was 50 (and I didn't have a baby or full time job back then!). I realised that I had been filling my time with useless crap like scrolling social media - once I let go of things like that, I had so much more time to read!

Date you finished: Today! 13 November 2018
Message number of your list post (if you've got one): 308. Though I'll post my list under a spoiler tag below.
Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): I thought that the feminism and mental health prompts were good, but the ancestry one was probably my favourite. And I read an incredible book for it - The Door
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): Besides the above, I have to highlight The Thirteenth Tale (for set in a bookshop or library), Black Swan Green (decade I was born), The Goldfinch (heist), The Essex Serpent (author with same name), Atonement (year I graduated)
Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: Definitely Something Wicked This Way Comes (halloween) because the author had never appealed to me, and probably Lullaby (stranger reading in public) because I'm not keen on reading about dead babies...
Least favorite prompt: Set on another planet. I'm just not crazy about space... But I did enjoy The Book of Strange New Things
Prompt you hope to see again: Most of them! But worthy ones like a problem facing society are always good.
Last prompt you finished: Advanced prompt #7, an author with the same first/last name as you
Finally, are you in for 2019? Already compiling my list! I'm trying to savour the process though, so restricting myself to a couple of prompts a day!

My full list - (view spoiler)

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book being read by a stranger in a public place. This gave me the perfect excuse to read a book I saw being read at the airport in 2017, The Tsar of Love and Techno. The gentleman reading it ended up sitting a row ahead of me on the plane and I was so intrigued with the title I had to ask him about it. He gave it a glowing recommendation.

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): I read a lot of great books this year but I keep gushing about Station Eleven (and got quoted on the popsugar article about it) so I'll stick with it. I read it for a book recommended by someone else doing the challenge.

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: never say never, but I doubt I would've picked up Space Opera this year if I didn't need a book set on another planet and it was so funny and oddly profound!

Least favorite prompt: A bestseller from the year you graduated high school. I'd read a lot of the ones that interested me already.

Prompt you hope to see again: I like the bookspotting style of stranger in a public place, so I'm looking forward to the seen on tv/in a movie one. Hoping to actually spot something instead of going off a list.

Last prompt you finished: An author with the same first or last name as you I Might Regret This: Essays, Drawings, Vulnerabilities, and Other Stuff by Abbi Jacobson. I actually read something at the end of 2017 that would've been perfect if I'd just waited a week (I did not plan at all last year) so then that one turned into a bit of a nail biter.

Finally, are you in for 2019? Absolutely!

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): The next book in a series you already started- I always need an excuse to actually carry on in started series'! (One Good Dragon Deserves Another )

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): The Guards (A book about a villain or antihero).

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: We Were Liars -I'd sworn off YA after suffering through one too many whiny Mary Sue heroines involved in love triangles, but I decided to pick this one up for the A past Goodreads Choice Awards winner. I listened to it on audio and LOVED it! I did not see the twist coming, and the teens acted like real teens, which I appreciated.

Least favorite prompt: A book with a female author that uses a male pseudonym. I couldn't really find any recent authors besides JK Rowling's Robert Galbraith. I don't count initials because while it could be to obscure ones gender (J.K. Rowling), I've seen men use initials for their children's books to differentiate between those and their gritty noir mysteries (P.B. Kerr and Philip Kerr). Plus today with the internet, it seems pretty pointless for one to try to hide gender behind a pseudonym, and I'm not really seeing anyone doing it- most authors with pseudonyms use them for writing in different genres and are very open as to their pseudonyms. (Of course, some might be successfully doing it which is why I'm not aware of it!)

Prompt you hope to see again: A book set in a country that fascinates you.

Last prompt you finished: A novel based on a real person

Finally, are you in for 2019? Yes!

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book by an author of a different ethnicity than you — The Girl Who Smiled Beads: A Story of War and What Comes After

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): The Stand, for a book with an ugly cover

Was there a book you LOVED that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: I loved Into the Drowning Deep, and most likely would not have found it if I hadn't been searching for a book set at sea.

Least favorite prompt: A book by a local author

Prompt you hope to see again: A book set in a country that fascinates you

Last prompt you finished: A book by a female author who uses a male pseudonym, because I had to wait for it to be published and then for my turn at the library (Lethal White).

Finally, are you in for 2019? Yes, working on my list now!
