PattyMacDotComma | 585 comments My Name Is Yip by Paddy Crewe is the off-beat 'memoir' of a most unusual character. Yip is like no one I've ever met (or am likely to meet), and I loved the way he told his story of early nineteenth century America.

PattyMacDotComma | 585 comments Jess Kidd has taken the difficult history of the 17th century Dutch ship 'Batavia' and tied it to a contemporary Australian story through two wonderful nine-year-old children. The Night Ship is well-researched and beautifully written, with a little bit of magical realism readers should love.

message 5677: by Anna KR (new)

Anna KR I ended up dnfing Book Lovers by Emily Henry. I read just over 200 pages, around 53% and whilst I loved the premise of two people who work in the book industry, one as an agent and the other as an editor, and the references to books, the reading of books, the love of books, I just didn't care about the characters. After 200 or so pages, I was bored.

I started Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell and I'm hooked!

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 157 comments Few of us like to be typecasted, even Dame Agatha Christie who had found early success with her mystery novels. She had additional writing desires to placate and thus the pseudonym Mary Westmacott was born.

The Rose and the Yew Tree by Mary Westmacott The Rose and the Yew Tree was her psychological story of redemption.

PattyMacDotComma | 585 comments The current FBI stories have reminded me of the Bureau's connection with First Nations Peoples, whose treatment around the world is also much in the news.

David Grann of 'The New Yorker' wrote Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. I am still furious about this case, as I'm sure most readers would be.

Jess (coffeeshopthrillers) | 33 comments JF: Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell - It started off slower than I like except for the back stories from the daughter's point of view but I must say, the second half made up for it. Once everything started to unfold it did not stop until the dramatic and heartfelt conclusion.
