Enjoy The Maltese Falcon, it has become synonymous with noir both in books and movies, it might not be the best of all time but it is damn good.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it. I've read some Hammett short stories but none of his novels. I saw the Humphrey Bogart movie many many years ago but don't remember much of it.

His novels are better, read most of his short stories their quality is all over the place. The movie followed the book closely, it is better that you don't remember the spoilers. Bogart was pretty good in the movie though, he was better as Spade than as Marlowe anyway.

Finished Crime Beat by Michael Connelly, the only unread Connelly for me, unforunately his non-fiction is too dour. I will even ask fans of the author to avoid this one. Rating - 2/5.

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 44 comments @aditya glad to see you like Jane Harper. I think she’s “good” but I don’t think she’s great. I’m not a fan of the detective Aaron Falk but I think the author is a skilled and effective writer. I think Her first book THE DRY is better than the second FORCE OF NATURE.

Yeah that has been my impression too. Her first book reminded me a bit of Tana French, she is not as good but still worth reading. Falk specially in the second book is very passive and could have been substituted by a completely different protagonist without any noticeable effect. But Haprer's plots are excellent and hopefully she will only get better.

PattyMacDotComma | 585 comments I really enjoyed both of these! This clever Czech detective has an appetite and wardrobe and disregard for protocol like Mick Herron's Jackson Lamb without the farts. Loved and understood (!) the Eastern European intrigue.

I will get to it soon.

Finished Thieves Like Us by Edward Anderson, I read it because the blurb had a recommendation from Chandler but it was a disappointment, really dated crime novel about bank robbing outlaws. Rating - 2/5
