Just finished James Patterson's, The Family Lawyer. Nice work that appears done by Jim himself rather than outsourcing to another writer of lesser experience in the genre. I'd recommend.

PattyMacDotComma | 585 comments Thanks to the Focus on Agatha Christie discussion for this one.

In her first-ever book, published almost a century ago, Agatha Christie introduced one of the world's best-loved characters, the inimitable M. Hercule Poirot with his very active 'little grey cells'.

The Mysterious Affair at Styles is the first of the many classic "it must be one of us" Christie mysteries.

Kelly | 7 comments Currently reading “Woman in Cabin 10”, by Ruth Ware with my neighborhood book club members. We just finished up reading “Memoirs of a Geisha”, by Arthur Golden and I was lagging on the previous month’s book “America’s First Daughter”, so finally finished it this week. That was my favorite book in a while! Highly recommend it.
Lastly, I’m also listening to “The Passage” by Justin Cronin on my daily commutes into the city via Audible.

It was long and too many local colloquialisms between the female students.

I hate magical realism in gritty crime, they never seem to mesh well together. Unless the supernatural elements are introduced in detail and the book is marketed as such, sudden diversions into paranormal in the middle of a series leave me irritated. Looking forward to The Trespasser, heard nice things about it.

message 199: by Randi (new)

Randi just joined this group, and there looks to be quite a few books that will end up on my TBR list now that I glanced through some of the posts! Thought I would post the last couple mystery/thriller type books that I have read recently:

Eeny Meeny
I really liked this one. It was a bit of a different idea than some of the other thrillers out there and had the right amount of twists and turns. It didn't give a lot of character background, but I didn't mind that - kept me focused on what was happening.

The Red Hunter
This book was pretty good. It flashed between a couple main characters, but wasn't confusing. I thought it had a few good twists.

Into the Black Nowhere
I can't say enough good things about this UNSUB series! This one ends off on a mega cliffhanger which absolutely KILLS me (I'm rather impatient!). If you read UNSUB, you will enjoy this one as well!

I am just picking up Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone, which doesn't fit into this group!

If you've read any of these ones that I have recently finished, I'd love to hear your thoughts! I've read 34 books so far this year and most of them were great. Love to hear any recommendations and thoughts you have!
