Throughout the book are timelines by decade listing some strides women made during that period. Do you think they fit in well with the rest of the book? Looking at the first timeline in the book, from the 1920s and ‘30s, I was impressed by the accomplishments of women at that time, such as winning the right to vote, the creation of the first Woman’s World Fair, and Anna May Wong, the first Chinese-American movie star, acted in the Academy Award winning film Shanghai Express. At the end of the book, the timeline for the 2010’s notes that during this decade the first (and to date only) woman, Kathryn Bigelow, won an Oscar for best director, Hilary Rodham Clinton was the first woman on a major party ticket to win the nomination for president of the United States, and the Pentagon opened all military combat jobs to women. How do you feel about the facts and figures presented? Do you find them inspiring? Do you see an improvement in women’s rights over the span of these timelines?
