Lára | 479 comments I'm almost done with some of the books I started reading last year so I'll be able to start some new ones.

Think I might finally start Summerlong

message 2: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Starting my Hugo reading with J.Y. Yang's novella The Black Tides of Heaven. (And when I finish it, I'll probably have to read the companion novella, The Red Threads of Fortune, just on general principles.)

Oh, very intriguing. I added it to my TBR!

I started our book of the month, Nice Dragons Finish Last in audio. I will be re-reading The Emperor's Soul in my beautiful, shiny, brand new paperback of Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection.
I also plan to start Sir Thomas the Hesitant and the Table of Less Valued Knights in ebook tonight. I'm really looking forward to it :)

I'm reading book two of the Void Witch series Void Black Shadow with one of the cutest ever sidekicks.

I'm also finishing up my audio book of Broken Homes

Jim (jimmaclachlan) A Slip of the Keyboard: Collected Non-Fiction by Terry Pratchett was excellent even though I've never cared for his fiction. I gave it a 5 star review here:

I picked that up on the cheap a while back, be interested to hear what you think. I read the first book in The Lost Fleet series and enjoyed well enough.

message 8: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments Currently reading Nice Dragons finish last. Don't have any plans after that so need to go hunting

Thanks Jim - I'm working my way through Discworld - maybe I leave this collection as the final piece. - a sort of extended About the Author :)

message 10: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Or read it piecemeal as you go through the series, Liam. He has some interesting things to say about where some came from.

Well, my first thought is that you probably want to read the Pillars of Reality series first. Sorry!

A very interesting series that only slowly becomes clearly SF.

message 12: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments I finished The Black Tides of Heaven, read The Red Threads of Fortune (it's another novella; and relatively short) and started Sarah Gailey's River of Teeth, yet another Hugo-nominated novella.

message 13: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments I am currently reading Changeling's Fealty by Glynn Stewart. This has a lot in common with the current book of the month but substitute Calgary for Detroit and a changeling instead of a dragon. The main character Jason, is very similar to Damien in the Starship Mage series which is my favourite of the series that he writes but it is still an entertaining read.

message 14: by Sotiris (new)

Sotiris Karaiskos Something romantic, Sevenwaters series of Juliet Marillier.

Finished Nice Dragons Finish Last. Gave it 5-stars. Now onto Hexed.

message 17: by Robin (new)

Robin | 32 comments Just finished The Paper Magician, almost done with Ghost Story, about to start The Infernal Battalion.

Cronache di Betelgeuse | 10 comments This month I will read:
* Sanctum by Sarah Fine
It's the first time that I will read something from this author.
* Dreamfever by Karen Marie Moning
I love this series, the last book has a cliffhanger ending ((view spoiler)) and I want to discover more about the future of MacKayla.

I will read the Italian edition:
Shadow (Le terre delle anime perse, #1) by Sarah Fine Alla ricerca dell'ultima verità by Karen Marie Moning

I finished the excellent group read last night or was it this morning! Everyone has enjoyed it, you should check it out

Next, I think, is Children of Blood and Bone.

Agh! I wanted to nominate Children of Blood and Bone for June's BOM but we had to nominate a stand alone. I do want to read it though. Interested to see what you think.

message 23: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished River of Teeth and went straight into its sequel, Taste of Marrow.

Just saw this. It was one of my picks for the June' BOM too :O
(I usually have two or three books in mind and then actually decide based on my mood, the weather, what I ate for lunch and the planets' alignment)

Just FYI for anyone who sees this. Sir Thomas is nominated for June's BOM. I promise everyone, it's really that good and it is hilarious. Reminds me so much of Prachett.

It's really good! I had someone visit today and couldn't read, wasn't pleased!

message 28: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments I am currently reading With Blood Upon the Sand It's taking me ages which is really unusual. Not sure why this isn't gripping me but I'm finding it very easy to put down and do something else.

Finished Hexed, gave it four stars. I'm so glad I discovered Atticus O'Sullivan. Since it's been so long since I've read a good Harry Dresden book this is just as good. This is a really good book. It has werewolves, vampires, witches and a smart a$$ main character. Really enjoyed it. Now on to Prince of Fools.

message 30: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Continuing on my (mostly Hugo-nominated) novella streak with All Systems Red (which I finished in one sitting) and Down Among the Sticks and Bones.

message 31: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments And finished Down Among the Sticks and Bones and now it's finally time to go back to N.K. Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy with The Obelisk Gate.

All Systems Red is brilliant. The sequel in the uk is priced higher than an actual thick paperback! Hoping the price drops on release.

Joseph | 1651 comments Helen wrote: "All Systems Red is brilliant. The sequel in the uk is priced higher than an actual thick paperback! Hoping the price drops on release."

It's going to be very high on my Hugo ballot, although right now I think Down Among the Sticks and Bones is edging it out for first place.

That was good too but not as good :)

message 36: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments After reading Janny's list of dragon novels, I am reading The Last Dragonlord. A real old fashioned fantasy book but so am I. A good read so far if a bit predictable

message 37: by Terry (new)

Terry Madden (terrymadden) | 5 comments I'm reading Tim Power's Last Call. Fabulous. I see a possible influence on Neil Gaiman's American Gods. It has a similar feel. Powers' writing is so vivid.

Finally got through The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories in ebook. I wouldn't have finished it if not for my subgenre challenge. Will start Golden Son soon.

Also finished Nice Dragons Finish Last in audio this weekend. I'm really eager to get to the sequel but for now, I'm listening to Age of Myth.

message 39: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I finished Iron Gold last night. Strong beginning and ending, but the middle left me kind of bored. It didn't grab me like the other books in the series.

Just started Grey Sister.

message 40: by Janette (new)

Janette | 211 comments I felt the same about Iron Gold. It didn't live up to the other two which was a shame

message 41: by Jason (new)

Jason | 131 comments Finished The Triumph of the Dwarves. I liked it, its good to catch up with great characters. This semed to take ages to get through, probably becaus its not as good as the original 3.
Onto Mage's Blood

message 43: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt | 142 comments Just finished up The Hollow Tree a unique supernatural story, started Grey Sister ,We Are Legion (We Are Bob)(audio) and am rereading Preludes & Nocturnes

message 44: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished The Obelisk Gate and immediately started The Stone Sky and wow, these are some remarkable, occasionally brutal, often beautiful books.

message 45: by Josh (new)

Josh | 53 comments I finished book 3 or Shadow Campaigns and just started book 4. I also read Ready Player One and Dresden book 8

I'm listening to The Fifth Season, I loved the hundred thousand but not Killing thingy, so we'll see if I take to this.

I'm reading Jade City, or I was. School started back this week so I've been too tired :(

I'm really enjoying the Fifth Season books, although they're not happy reads. Haven't read the Dreamblood books yet, although I want to just because of the Ancient Egypt-inspired setting.

Can Children of Blood and Bone be read as a stand alone?
