Challenge #233- Wanderlust
see- https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

World Landmarks - The Statue of Liberty
May 1, 2019 - June 30, 2019
7/7

✔1. The Statue of Liberty, fashioned after the Roman goddess Libertas, sits on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. Her original name is "Liberty Enlightening the World" and she welcomes visitors to the US and proclaims freedom for all people around the world. *Read a book that takes place in New York city - They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera 9/7/19
or read a book with a statue on the cover.

✔2. Designed by French architect and sculptor, Frederic Bartholdi, Liberty was gifted to the US by France to commemorate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence. The tablet in her hand reads JULY IV MDCCLXXVI. He created a smaller replica for France which now stands on its own man-made island in the Seine. *Read a book you received as a gift or read a book whose author's first or last name begins with F or B. - The Player of Games by Iain M. Banks 5/3/19

✔3. Construction of the statue began in France in 1875. It was then disassembled into 350 pieces and brought to the US in September of 1885 where the 89 foot pedestal was ready and waiting for it's lovely lady. A year later, assembly was completed and Lady Liberty was opened to the public on October 28, 1886. *Read a book that was published in September or October or read a book that has at least 350 pages. - Moab Is My Washpot by Stephen Fry 5/9/19

✔4. Made of copper sheeting over an iron frame, the statue arrived in the US looking like a shiny new penny. It took roughly 20 years for the oxidation to patina Liberty to the greenish-blue hue she is today. *Read a book with a green or blue cover - Shame by Salman Rushdie by Salman Rushdie 5/1/19
or read a book that starts with a letter in COPPER.

✔5. The seven spikes radiating from her crown are meant to be a halo of light known as an aureole. The number seven was chosen to represent the world's seven seas and continents. You can access the crown by climbing 354 steps inside the statue but it is strenuous and equivalent to climbing 20 stories.*Read a series book #7 or read a book with a royal character that could wear a crown (tell us who). - The title character in The Duchess of Padua by Oscar Wilde 5/18/19

✔6. The torch in the right hand of the Statue of Liberty is a symbol of enlightenment and was meant to enlighten the path to freedom. The original copper flame was replaced with 24 carat gold plating during a restoration project initiated by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. *Read a book with a light or flame on the cover or read a book where a restoration project happens (tell us what was restored). - an old car is restored in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang by Ian Fleming 7/15/19

✔7. For a period of sixteen years, the nine arc lamps originally placed in the torch allowed the Statue of Liberty to function as a lighthouse and during that time the statue was under the operation of the Lighthouse Board. But it wasn't as functional as they hoped and the cost soon outweighed its effectiveness. In 1924 it was declared a National Monument and operation of the statue was transferred to the National Park Service. *Read a book that takes place in a National Park or read a book with a lighthouse on the cover or mentioned in the text (share text location and phrase- Text- Lab Girl by Hope Jahren - p.69-"...we can distinguish a lighthouse with a square base from one that is rounded by the way the ripple hits us..." 5/6/19

We're planning to add a table of contents to the folder to make it easier to find questions that have already been asked, but for now, you'll just need to scroll through the thread; sorry!
Read a book with a punctuation mark in the title - Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm 5/27/19
(bonus if it's a question mark) OR a book with a character who is a teacher of some sort

CHALLENGE RULES :
See this thread for more detailed rules for all CCC challenges.

♦ If you want to participate in this challenge, please sign up by posting at least a partial list of the challenge requirements. This gives us a post to link you to, which you can use to update your books as the challenge progresses.

♦ Unless otherwise noted, books must be at least 150 pages long. (See the link above for rules regarding graphic novels.) Books may only be used for one task in this challenge, but cross-challenge posting is encouraged :) Re-reads are allowed, as long as you read the entire book. You must read at least half of the book AFTER the challenge begins in order to count it for this challenge.

♦ For each book you read, please post a link to the title, and indicate the author and the date you finished reading it. If a challenge task gives several options, please make it clear which option you’ve chosen. If the task calls for an item on the cover or specific author initials or name/s, you must include a link to the book cover and/or author's name, respectively. To avoid spoiling a book for other readers, please use spoiler tags, if necessary, when explaining your book choices.*
* For help with posting spoiler tags, see this post: Spoiler tags
* If you don’t know how to post a link to the book title, cover or author, see the instructions here: Add a link to the book title, book cover and/or author

♦ When you complete the challenge, please copy and paste your entire list as a new message at the end of the challenge thread. If you do this while you still have the Edit window open, it will copy all of your links and formatting. If you don’t repost your list, with appropriate links, your name will not be added to the list of those who have completed the challenge. Please do NOT simply post a link back to your original post.

Ed Lehman | 2894 comments Challenge #240- Stress Free Reading Challenge
☯ULTIMATE A-Z CHALLENGE☯
see- https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

A to G
No time limit (of course) Beginning 5/1/19-

This challenge is a combination of all the a-z challenges out there mixed with some a-z scavenges-type challenges.

*LEVELS
Easy Peasy - Choose 4 or less out the 8 for each letter to do. (Mix and match between all 8.)
Almost All the Way In - Choose 5, 6, or 7 out of the 8 to do. (Mix and match between all 8.)
ALL IN...Choose to do all 8.

**Feel free to take up to 3 free-passes on scavenger or letter section if need be. Example if you never read cozy mysteries, you could use a free-pass on this one, or skip finding an Author starting with X. Also no need to say which ones you want to use your free-pass on beforehand.

***As an added bonus you can choose to do this as One Post per book or you can post a book twice...once for the scavenger challenges and once for the letters. You decide which you want to do.

****Post a template of this and what level you're playing at. If you're doing Almost all the Way in or All In--you may want two posts in a row, maybe 3 if you like to post covers for each book.

For Scavenger sections of challenges: You can choose any; 1,2,3 or all 4, to do. Use books that fit the descriptions of each word. Where covers are needed they should be posted.

For Title: A book Title starting with that letter (excluding the, only because there are so many that start with THE)

For Item: Any item on the cover starting with that letter.
ex. This cover has an AX on it... Odd & True by Cat Winters this cover has ICE CREAM on it The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay For difficult to find letters like Q, U, X, Y, and Z, you can get creative. (For example; with letter X you could use the word X-Factor and use a book with someone or something you feel has the x-factor. An example for Y could be a book with a yellow cover. Feel free to search words on google and see what you can come up with.

For Author: An author's first, or last name starting with that letter. For letters that are difficult to find a middle initial will work or a name with that letter in it if you can't find anything else. You pick what you consider, difficult to find.

For Character: One of the main characters, whose First or Last name or Nickname in the book that starts with that letter. For those hard to find letters, like Q, U, X, and Z, any character in the book will do.

There is a twist...the books your choose to read must have been on your WTR shelf prior to May 1, 2019. You are welcome to use any WTR list you have, whether it be Goodreads, a personal list, or a combination of both.

There are several levels of participation to choose from. Feel free to change your level at any time. As always, such articles as "a", "an", "the", etc can be observed or ignored - your choice.
