Much of Stockholm’s charm lies in its waterways. A canal tour is a good way to acquaint yourself with the city's intricate island layout, get your bearings and see the areas and sights you’d like to explore later on. The two-hour bridge tour takes you under 15 of Stockholm's bridges and has you experience the locks that connect Lake Mälaren with the Baltic Sea. ✔1. TORTURE MUSEUM, NETHERLANDS
The city of Amsterdam boasts over 50 museums, but few of them are as strange as the Museum of Torture. It provides a vivid image of a painful European past. This small chapel is known worldwide for its macabre décor of carved human bones and skeletons. It all started in the early 1300's, when the abbot scattered holy soil from Jerusalem in the cemetery, making it a popular burial site. Running out of space they began digging up old graves to make room for others. A local woodcarver was given the daunting task of arranging more 40,000 old bones in a visually impressive way.

Commissioned in 1552 by Prince Orsini as an expression of grief for his wife, this garden in Lazio is not like any other classic Renaissance garden. It was designed to display his deep despair. This fantastical park in Nantes is definitely unusual! Created by two mechanical artists hoping to share their creative process with the public. Their collective imagination brings to life the world of Jules Verne, the mechanical universe of Leonardo da Vinci, and Nantes’ industrial history. Insane asylums in general create a significant creep factor, but this one has a history of awful deaths including a famous murder. It is now completely abandoned with 77 empty buildings and the Goulburn locals claim the spirits of those who died there roam the empty halls. Ghost tours of the asylum are conducted regularly. And if you want more ghostly encounters, head on over to the town's abandoned orphanage.

With a history of smugglers, criminals and patriots the discoveries found tell an interesting history of the area. Though never used for graves, mummified remains are discovered every few years. It is definitely an "enter at your own risk" adventure.
