The first read of 2019 will be from Central Africa (as defined by the UN geoscheme)

Nominate great reads from any of these countries:
Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, São Tomé and Príncipe.

Try to keep nominations to one pr. person - and you're welcome to second someone else's nomination - depending on the votes we will be reading two of the group choices in Jan/Feb.

Our last choices from this region are not eligible in this round:
Tram 83 by Fiston Mwanza Mujila
King Leopold's Ghost by Adam Hochschild
The Book of Chameleons by José Eduardo Agualusa
(but the threads are open if you want to read and discuss those titles)

Authors! Please note : We have decided to not allow selv-nomination - but if you are an author and would like to promote your book, please feel free to do so in this folder. Thank you for your understanding!

I'm going to nominate Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue (Cameroon). I read it in 2016 and would like to reread it at some point :)

Looks like a good nominee and is available at libraries near me.

George P. | 253 comments I will nominate Houseboy by Ferdinand Oyono who is also of Cameroon. It was published in 1956 and later translated (to English) from its original French, so could be found in either language I think.

Valerie (valroos) | 321 comments I would like to nominate Equador by Miguel Sousa Tavares

I would like to nominate Your Madness, Not Mine: Stories of Cameroon by Makuchi. If I am right she is the only author from this region on the 50 books by African women challenge.
Moreover, given the political tensions in the anglophone region in Cameroon, this must be an interesting read.

While I was too fast on declaring the winner - it was actually Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue. The second place went to Your Madness, Not Mine: Stories of Cameroon by Makuchi - and we have decided to include it too - but as a short story read! So look for it there (It is also part of the "50 books by African women challenge").
