Madi Werning When reading Nicholas Sparks Safe Haven, readers will be kept on the edge of their seats while wondering who is going to make it out alive. Katie has ran away from her abusive husband Kevin, and ends up in Southport, North Carolina and after moving on from the past, she has met a man Alex, and his children Kristen and Josh. She learns not too long after that his wife had died of cancer. Soon her husband finds out where she has been living and he comes to pay her a little visit. Throughout the book Katie has met a friend Jo, that lives right next to her always giving her advice on what to do about her new relationship. Later on Katie realizes that Jo was not a real person, but only Alex’s wife, but in a person form. Showing both Katies and her husbands point of view are a good way to keep the book interesting. All of the drama and fear in this book keeps a reader reading. Katie stops isolating herself because she found the importance of being able to trust and love. Katie is reminded of her past by a fire that left her thinking about how she rebuilt her life. The conflict between Katie and Kevin will touch the readers to show that she never gave up. Most readers will enjoy the suspense and fear of the characters. There are so many twists and turns that Safe Haven has to offer. Right when a reader thinks everything is good, something gets thrown in and changes the whole situation. This book receives five out of five stars because of all of the suspense and drama between all characters.
