theDuke | 6492 comments Round 9 themes:

174. It's not big and it's not clever, but the tunes are good. Songs with expletives in the lyrics (not necessarily in the title). It can be a single utterance or a blue tirade (though, with one glorious exception, I tend towards the one-off). - Fishy Jim
175. Songs with US state names in the title - let's hear your Californias, Hawaiis, Idahos etc. - Rob
176. Sample Example - Tracks that sample other songs - Helen
177. 'One Album Wonders - Round 2' - Same rules as before, but noms can be selected from albums released upto 5 years ago. Any one off solo albums produced by now defunct Artists/Bands - EP's, singles, Live albums, Comps also produced by the artist/band are irrelevant, but noms must come from the sole album itself. - theDuke
178. Toys, general or specified, in the title or artist's name - Brass Neck
179. 'Say I'm Your No.1' - your favourite song which topped the nation's (BBC, of course) charts. simple as.......- tech

Here's the link to nom new themes for Round 9, keep 'em coming...please!:

Featuring part of a BBC radio broadcast of King Lear. There's always a chance this - like most other Beatles material on YT - might get pulled down before we vote. I'll have to keep a close eye.

theDuke | 6492 comments Well now....seeing as i'm in a humorous mood tonight, there are days when I like to put the serious stuff to one side, and listen to something daft, joyful & humorous & completely bonkers! Tonight is one of them nights!! :-)

I've no doubt, that this'll be met with utter derision from many of you...but knickers to ya...it more than qualifies for this theme and I abso-chuffingly-lutely love this one; a collaboration with a well known artist & the mental foursome from one of my all time favourite madcap TV shows, featuring the late great Rik Mayal, Ade Edmondson, Nigel Planer & Christopher Ryan....so funk it...it's going in!!

Most charity singles are usually a great big pile of the rancid stinking steaming stuff...but not this one, it's arguably the best one ever made, imo.

And if you lot think I've lost the plot..then tough..suck on 'em apples! Probably a nul pointer, so if for nuthin' else, it should a least raise a chuckle from ya! ;-D

In Irish, An Seanchaí is, the storyteller. So in this track, the storyteller is Eddie Lenihan, one of the last few real old fashioned traditional story tellers. I went to see him once in a dark, gloomy decrepit old pub, it was one of the spookiest evenings I have ever experienced. Anyway, here he is telling a story about telling stories, while my mates in From The Bogs fill the background full of all sorts of strange noises including wind howling, birdies tweetering, and all the usual stuff you would expect to find in the wild countryside:

theDuke | 6492 comments Evenin all!

Bit of an update re my ongoing eyesight issues. It's been 4 weeks since the op, I've just finished the last day of the steroid drops, plus I had my eye check up test today at the Opticians. As some of you know, things weren't quite right with the operated eye, as the clarity wasn't quite there, although fairly good...there has been a hint of some blurriness that was bugging me. Well, the Optician went through all the tests..and finally told me what the problem is.....as is pretty common for cataract ops, I have some residual fluid behind the lens, that hasn't cleared up fully, which is obscuring what would otherwise be pretty sharp vision in my right eye now. So the Optician had promised to fill out the test report and get that sent off to my Consultant Ophthalmologist, with a view to hopefully getting my next appointment with him pushed forward. I'm currently booked to meet him on the 10th May next. I may require a further course of steroids to shift that fluid..but have been told this could take months to resolve, which I hope won't be the case. In any case, the left eye cannot be operated on, until all is A OK in the right one. So...it's now a case of waiting, twiddling me thumbs, for the next step.

Bit of a poopypants, cos the weather today was glorious, which means i'm itching to resume my many projects again! I can see well enough without specs, except for reading..which as a amateur carpenter...is no good to me, as I need the short range vision for needing to measure something!

A possible temporary solution, might come in the form of a cheap pair of readers, that could suffice, until things progress.

Otherwise..i'm good spirits, now that I know what the problem is..and that it can be fixed..so all told, a good day today.

Right...back to topic...17 tracks of songs with sound effects to amuse ourselves with.

Voting closes at the usual time, 10pm Sunday.

the sound effects (and the siren does sound kinda human) are more clearly audible on the 'black board dub' version - i chose the bill laswell overdub version (from 'trojan dub massive' as i love the treacle thick treatment laswell gave it. carry on!

theDuke | 6492 comments Okey doke then....good round all told...loads I could've voted for, I even liked Tech's reggae number....that one just missed out on my top 5...sorry Tech! :)

Soooo...in first place then....a great track by The O'Jay's - Ship Ahoy, scored a very respectable 29 points...so this week's winner is.......SJB! A sterling choice sir, much enjoyed.

Taking second place..Drum Rock by The Upsetters, means the resident Scottish Rastafarian scores a silver, having garnered 21 points for his nomination.

And finally, bringing up the rear, with the evergreen popular classic, that is I Am The Walrus by The Beatles, still picked up 19 points, nominated by Tim.

And hard luck to Jemma....whilst I've never been a fan of The Carpenters, I quite liked that one...and was in my shortlist...so here's your complimentary wooden spoon!

Well done to the winners.....the next round should be very interesting! :)
