Thanks so much for posting the link. I think it is a great deal for anyone doing an Around the World type of challenge. Plus the accompanying Audible books are only $1.99!

Booknblues | 12086 comments You are welcome one and all. It was a great find that I had to share.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments I got a couple, I think I already owned a couple because they were Kindle First offers.

There were nine of them, and I think they were only available for free for the one day.

I snagged them all for my Kindle! I hope people who read them will report back here as to whether or not they are good.

Hmm, the link is working for me still, but maybe it is in my cache.

Unfortunately it is a lot to retype with all the foreign names, lol.

UPDATE: I tested in a different browser, and it still works. Maybe clear your cache and give it another try . . .

I was still able to use the link and download them for free at 8:15 am in the Eastern Time Zone (4/19/18).

Thanks for sharing that Cora. Hopefully if BC tries again, she will be able to get them!

message 17: by Jgrace (new)

Jgrace | 3941 comments I got the books yesterday, but I just looked it up to see if they were still available for a friend. I picked kindle from the search menu and typed World Book Day in the search box and there they all were.

Great idea for searching them out - - hopefully BC sees your mssage and tries that out!

message 19: by Jason (new)

Jason Oliver | 3047 comments It says it's good for 5 days 9 hrs and 31 minutes.

I'm gonna get them all. May never read them (don't know what any of them are about) but they are free books.

message 20: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11695 comments I thought I saw something that said they were free for the week...? I could be wrong.

I didn't grab any (I already have so many books on my tbr!), but there were a few that looked particularly interesting. I might go back again later (heading out to volunteer in a few minutes here), though.

message 21: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11695 comments Was this already mentioned? If the authors are from the countries they represent, they might be good for Nicole's cultural challenge this year, too.

message 22: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12930 comments What are the books and where do you get them? On the audible app?

message 23: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12930 comments They look like they all download to a Kindle

message 24: by Jgrace (new)

Jgrace | 3941 comments Amy wrote: "What are the books and where do you get them? On the audible app?"

They are Amazon kindle books, Amy. BnB put the link at the top of the page.

message 25: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments This is great! Thank you for pointing it out! I picked up three. Like Jason, who knows when I will get to them, but they are there if I need a good pick for a future tag.

message 26: by Cora (new)

Cora (corareading) | 1921 comments Amy wrote: "What are the books and where do you get them? On the audible app?"

They are kindle books. The books available are:

A River in Darkness: One Man's Escape from North Korea
The House by the River
Still Waters
The Great Passage
Last Train to Istanbul
The Gray House
The Question of Red
The Light of the Fireflies
Ten Women

The link to get them is in message 1.

message 27: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments They are currently free, but you can add the audible narration for 1.99.

LibraryCin | 11695 comments I'm confused. I had to go to the .ca site. Where underneath the title it says "Kindle Edition
CDN$ 0.00 ", then beside that is a "kindle unlimited" logo.

What is Kindle unlimited?

So, it looks like I have to subscribe to Kindle unlimited to get this for free?

I take it this is not the case on .com?

Sigh, I guess I'll go with my first instinct and not add more to my tbr, after all.

Otherwise, it appears to cost me about $6 each to buy.

:( I'm so sorry, Cindy. It probably is just a deal in the US and it's definitely just for kindle. That must be so frustrating for you.

message 32: by Cora (new)

Cora (corareading) | 1921 comments I do think I saw somewhere it was for U.S. only. (Kindle unlimited is their subscription plan where you pay a monthly fee and can read as many of the kindle unlimited books as you want).

Cindy if you go to the individual books it should show if they are free. I believe that a Canadian in another group I'm in was able to pick them up, but I 'm double checking on that and will get back to you.

message 34: by Jason (new)

Jason Oliver | 3047 comments If you really really want them but can't download them, you can get a VPN program, change your location to USA. It will give your computer a USA ip address. Then download the books. Just a suggestion.

message 35: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments The T&C do say it is for US customers.
I checked a couple of the books and they are published by Amazon — I know some are part of the Kindle First program, which offers prime members a choice of 1 of 6 books prior to the month they are released.

For Kindle unlimited, you pay a monthly fee and can “check out” up to 10 books at one time to read for free. I also think that most of these books are either self-published through Amazon, or through their Amazon publishing imprint.

Thank you. I would have managaed for Kindle. I put an app on my tablet the last time a free book came up I decided to read. I prefer reading on my Kobo to my tablet, but for free, I'd have done it. Oh, well.

That would be great if you can let me know if they were able to get them for free! From what it looked like to me, they were each about $6.

LOL! Thank you for the suggestion. I probably won't worry about it too much. Temporary disappointment. I have over 600 books on my tbr, so I don't really need more!!!

message 39: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11695 comments And thank you all for the info on Kindle Unlimited! It does look like I could get them for free if I wanted to subscribe (or even do a 30 day trial), but I don't think I will.

double checked and my Canadian friend was unable to pick them up . It appears that they are only available in the US, sorry to our international friends.

message 41: by LibraryCin (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments I do think that it's a bit funny that the theme is "read the world" and it's not available to the rest of the world. Perhaps Amazon is trying to say something about the stereotypical american who doesn't know much about the rest of the world ;-)
