D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments I don’t think so. I didn’t do at all well in KU 3p here. 3p there. It was pathetic.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Oh... so sorry. I'm ever so good at putting my foot in it. If anyone would like to borrow my foot for any purpose, I could lend it to you. It might work well as a foot in the door.

Um... I think I'd better get some sleep.

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments You haven’t put your foot in anything to my knowledge. I’m just still blundering around trying to find what works for me.

C.L. Lynch (cllynchauthor) | 210 comments Unless you're making serious money outside of KU, it's worth re-entering. If you've entered a PDI ad then be warned - they rarely get views outside of massively high bigs (like 0.25 and up) but they do tend to get a lot of clicks and more sales, so I love them.

If this doesn't pan out and you're up for it, DJ, I'll make you a deal. Let me re-write your blurb, and put yourself back in KU. I will personally pledge 15 quid of my own money and I will run ads for you myself. If you don't see a profit, I'll shut my mouth and never open it again.

Re "not liking your payment type" for "the other kind of ad" - i'm curious. Since PDI ads and Sponsored Ads are both done out of AMS, what kind of message are you getting when you choose sponsored ad?

message 155: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments I just clicked on whichever advert it was (can’t remember which one) and it stated the problem with the payment options which when I checked were my debit cards which pay for the other ads. I didn’t get to do anything with that ad. (I’m having difficulty getting my brain to cement the terminology of all the new words. I keep forgetting.)

I don’t want to be in KU thanks. I’ve spent too long getting set up on the other platforms. I’d have to take the time to find out how I pull the book from those. I’d rather plod along and eventually figure out how to market on them too. I’ll have to look at the blurb again. I thought it was ok. I thought it represented the book.

And I'm very good at reminding you of what doesn't!!!!!

Visibility is a word that is at the front of my mind at the moment and once you've got your foot in the door, push it wide.

I'm talking to myself here - I have to do that regularly.

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments Yeah I’m an expert at that. (The room fell apart with laughter.)

Carmel Hanes C. L., You've said in the past that running multiple ads with fewer keywords is better than doing a single ad with lots of keywords....can you explain the rationale for that? I'm trying to understand this process more fully. Thanks!

message 159: by C.L. (new)

C.L. Lynch (cllynchauthor) | 210 comments Because if you have one ad running, you have one ad running. Someone enters a search term or clicks an amazon link, and now Amazon is asking for bidders. You have one ad bidding out of maybe a hundred ads all bidding to be shown. Your ad may win or not depending on the other bids. If it does, the person may or may not click on it.

If you have twenty ads running, you can experiment with different bids, different ad copy (if you're running ads with copy on them), and different markets.

Then you can see which ones perform best and duplicate them.

Thanks. I think that helps. :)

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments I have (I hope) paused all but one Amazon ad for the UK at the moment. It totalled a spend of £39 with sales of about £6. I haven't got the time at the moment to tinker with it because I need to put some effort into building up my other business. (Just spent a day trying to use social media for my day job in-between seeing clients.)

My one US product display ad is running and so far it's sitting at 231 impressions and 1 click and a spend of 20c lol. I haven't got time to figure out why I can't do the other type of ad with my current payment options.

Thanks for all your help CL. If I can sort my day job out I will have more funds available.

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments Just had an email stating the changes to AMS

“You will now sign in at the Amazon Advertising website, advertising.amazon.co.uk, to manage campaigns. This site replaces the Amazon Marketing Services website, ams.amazon.com.
Headline Search Ads are now called Sponsored Brands.”

message 163: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Thanks, D.J. I've not had an email but I did notice the changes! I just hope I'm not in some 'box' of Zon's that means I don't get informed!

message 164: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments I don't think it's going to change much. I'm still kicking myself for creating a different account for the UK site using a different email. What was I thinking? I've just added a layer of complication I don't need if I forget to log out of one set of ID. Idiot.

message 165: by C.L. (new)

C.L. Lynch (cllynchauthor) | 210 comments The ads don't change, but if you have an ad blocker on they'll all disappear. Took me a while to figure out where all my ads went!

message 166: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments That's interesting. I don't have an extension for one in Chrome and I saw my ads, so I think I'm OK. I also sent them a message pleading for them to change my email address.

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments (Can now log into US and UK Amazon Ads using my usual Amazon account. Yay. Got a bit too enthusiastic with my latest email address!)

message 168: by Carmel (new)

Carmel Hanes I just paused an ad I was running and put a new one together. The new one did not prompt or allow a short "blurb" to describe the book. Has anyone run into this yet? I've been doing the ad that uses keywords, and usually had to describe the book. This new format doesn't seem to allow that. Or am I missing something? The preview appears to just show the cover and provides a link, but contains no description or "hook". Comments or suggestions?

message 169: by C.L. (new)

C.L. Lynch (cllynchauthor) | 210 comments In the UK, only the product display ads have copy on them. Sponsored ads don't.

message 170: by Carmel (new)

Carmel Hanes What's odd is that the sponsored ads did allow it in the past, here in the states, but not this time. I'm trying to figure out why not and if there is a way to change that. Anyone?
