Helen | 8 comments I hope it is ok to post this here, if it isn't please feel free to delete.
I'm going to be talking at a Georgette Heyer conference in London during the summer, (https://www.ies.sas.ac.uk/events/conf... ) where I will be presenting the results of using data science to analyse Heyer's novels, and insights I've found about her readers. I've created the questionnaire, and wondered if you would be so kind as to fill it in. I am trying to reach as many of her readers as I can. Feel free to share the link with others fellow readers.
But be warned the survey has 40 questions, so make sure you get yourself a glass of ratafia!

Emmy B. | 151 comments Done! I actually really enjoyed filling it in! The worst part was having to limit myself to ten favourite books. I mean, come on! :) Anyway, good luck with your presentation. I'm really interested in the conference and want to see if I can attend :)

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 460 comments LOL I felt the same way, it's so hard to choose!

Thank you very much :)
Hopefully see you at the conference!

Thanks very much for filling it out :)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Hi Helen. I'm one of the moderators here & I'm fine with you posting the questionnaire.
I went to a GH conference in Sydney a couple of years ago & really enjoyed it.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I did the survey the only thing I had trouble with was the Anya Seton question as I loved Katherine found the other 2 I read a bit of a slog.

message 8: by Rosina (new)

Rosina (rosinarowantree) I did the questionnaire. On the other authors section I did average out my responses - particularly when I don't think I've read anything by the author since my childhood/teens back in the 60s!

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 2786 comments Completed!
That was difficult, to pick the 'least favorite' categories. I had not read so many of the authors mentioned - Anya Seton, Norah Lofts, Margaret Irwin...

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Aarghh I forgot Why Shoot a butler in least favourite. I don't suppose there is a way for me to edit my response, Helen?

message 11: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) It was quite interesting to complete the survey and reflect on my enjoyment of Heyer and other writers.

message 12: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments That was fun, but it was hard to narrow down answers, and, of course, the "yes" and "no" ones were qualified in my mind. For instance, I'm not interested in "women's history", but I do like heroines in history!

Done. Although it wasn't easy ;-)

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 2786 comments I could not think of anything to ask or say to GH, and was wondering why that was a question.

OMG. Was that really two years ago?!

Did you ever see the old "Meeting of the Minds" PBS series, moderated by Steve Allen? Its premise was based on a kind of round-table discussion among historical characters, like Attila the Hun and Dickens and Charlemagne. I picture Heyer at the table!

This series sounds so promising that I have checked youtube. It is there. I am watching the first episode now, it is really interesting and enjoyable. Thank you for an information ;-)

I never thought of checking youtube! I just remember enjoying it, because it was so different.

Alathea Jane (vronlas) | 59 comments Questionnaire completed! I was a bit surprised to realise that my favourite Heyer novels don't necessarily feature my favourite heroes or heroines, and that my favourite heroines don't necessarily go with my favourite heroes...

For the 10 favourite books, it was hard to limit myself to one or two books by a couple of authors. It would have been easier to write "Patrick O'Brian, Aubrey-Maturin series" or "Terry Pratchett, Night Watch series"...

Eeep - I wrote series instead of books for some of my answers.

I wrote "Narnia series" for one of mine!

message 22: by Critterbee❇ (new)

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 2786 comments Oh Karlyne, you must be my long lost sister twin! I love the Narnia Series - in fact it was the first book that I remember picking out for myself at the library. A teacher had read us The Magician's Nephew, and I wanted to read the rest of the series.

message 23: by Karlyne (last edited Apr 24, 2018 10:23AM) (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments I read them every winter, starting in January -
perfect antidotes to short days. Ahhh, Narnia!

I found the same thing, it's strange isn't it?

I also wrote in series and love Narnia!

Hi Carol, I've got all the answers in a spreadsheet, so can easily edit it. Did you complete the questionnaire just before posting this? If so I can find the one which matches up with the time of your post :)

message 27: by Helen (new)

Helen | 8 comments Thank you all very much for filling in the questionnaire, am just going through the replies, 230 so far! Glad to hear you had fun doing it.
And, yes it's fine to put series instead of individual title :)

message 28: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Oh, so glad you got a decent number of responses. That's great.

It wouldn't be just before - probably a few hours before.

The least favourites I put were

Helen
Simon the Coldheart
Royal Escape
Barren Corn
Charity Girl

If you could swap out Charity Girl for Why Shoot a Butler that would be great! & I'd Like Why Shoot a Butler before Barren Corn.

message 30: by Moloch (new)

Moloch | 208 comments I filled out the survey, although I have read only a few Heyer's books so far, one I really loved, the rest were ok, and a few I really disliked, so basically my "real" favorite is just one.
It was fun nevertheless!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Hi Helen

How did the conference go?

& what were the results of the survey?
