Kate | 646 comments I'm back after having to miss the last one. (My friend's wedding was lovely but there were times when I wanted to be reading!!)

Its my brother's birthday for this round so I'll be doing some family stuff but they know about the readathons so will expect me to have my nose in a book. Plus I'm expecting to use my niece and nephew and read to them. lol

So here is my tentative TBR:

To finish:
The Truth by Terry Pratchett
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

Graphic novel:
Death Note, Vol. 6: Give-and-Take

Potentials to start:
The Hollow Hills By Mary Stewart
The Heretic's Apprentice By Ellis Peters

Books to read to the kids:
- Catch me if you can!
- Scaredy Cat!
- The Magical Toy Box
- Monkey Tricks

- An assortment of Mr Men books
- Meg and Mog - assorted books
These should boost my page numbers and books finished totals!

Now to have a mad tidy up and sort a menu so I can spend as much time reading as possible!

Kate you have some good options here! Catch Me if you Can adds much to the movie version. About Sense and Sensibility--is this your first read? You are in for a delight. Have you discovered Dr Octavia Cox on You Tube. Only watch if you want to know everything. She does fabulous close readings.

Hi Cynda, it is my first read but not my first Austen. I'll check out Dr Octavia Cox - thanks for the tip.

Thanks Erin, I'm about a third of the way through the Terry Pratchett. I find Discworld novels to be a comfort read so I definitely have at least one I'll enjoy and should speed along with!

Looks like a great reading assortment with lots of good choices. A friend highly recommends the Mary Stewart Merlin books — enjoy!

message 409: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 412 comments Looks like some great books, and I LOVE when I see people reading with their kids for this!

The Death Note series is a lot of fun and you can't go wrong with Terry Pratchett! I still need to get into Mary Stewarts books at some point myself. Happy Reading!

Happy readathon!

message 412: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Hi Susan, nice to see you again. I read the first in the Merlin series a long time ago so really need to move on to this one!

Jamie, Deathnote is a re-read for me. Its one of those series when you get to the end you just have to go through it all again! Enjoy your readathon.

Hello Ann, my Mad tidy up didn't amount to much as I've made more mess tonight making my brother's birthday cake! lol

Oh Susy, I feel for you. My start time is 1am (UK) so I'm the same. Off to bed shortly then I'll probably join from hour 5 or 6.

message 413: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Ended up starting at 5am, so hour 4. Not bad. Got up feeling well rested but now my eyes are starting to close again hahahah

message 414: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I'm underway at last!
Started in hour 6 (6am) and have so far read for approx 2 hours. I'm reading The Truth by Terry Pratchett.
I've stopped briefly (8.30am) for a coffee, some breakfast and a check on social media.
I have a good block of reading time until hour 10 then I'm out with the family so it'll be a bit more sporadic until about hour 18.

Hope everyone is enjoying their reading.

I met friends for a short walk and breakfast and that unexpectedly turned into a full day of sitting around in cafés, enjoying the sun shine and ended with having a pizza. I am basically starting the readathon now… 🤣

7am - 28 mins, 20 pages of The Truth
8am - 29 mins, 20 pages of The Truth
9am - 27 mins, 21 pages of The Truth
10am - 14mins, 11 pages of The Truth
11am - No reading
12 - 40 mins, 40 pages of The Truth & Death Note 6
1pm-4pm - out with family
Hour 17 - 5pm - 25 mins, 39 pages of Death Note 6
Hour 18 - 6pm - 25 mins, 20 pages of The Truth
Hour 19 - 7pm - 22 mins, 18 pages of The Truth
Hour 20 - 8pm - 20 mins, 14 pages of The Truth
Hour 21 - 9pm - 28 mins, 40 pages of Death Note 6 and 14 mins, 6 pages of Sense and Sensibility
Hour 22 - 10pm 13 mins, 10 pages of The Truth
Hour 23 - 11pm 9 mins, 6 pages of the Truth.
Hour 24 - sleep!

I was drooping by the end and couldn't finish The Truth but I've carried on today and have now completed the book.

Overall stats:

Time read: 5 hours and 49 minutes
Pages read: 301

So all in all not bad when it included time out with the family too.

message 430: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Hello Everyone, well, I'm back for the October Deweys and just in the nick of time before my thread fell off the page!

Not sure how much I'll be able to read this time as its my Sister-in-laws birthday weekend and October has turned into a mega busy month. Still I'll sort out a plan over the next couple of days and see how I do.

message 431: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments So I've got a tentative TBR:

To finish:
Different Aspects By Michael Ball (Memoir)
The Stars Are Fire By Anita Shreve (historical fiction)

To start:
1588: A Calendar of Crime: One Year, Five Mysteries By Shirley McKay (Mystery)
Pandora's Jar: Women in the Greek Myths By Natalie Haynes (Myth)

I'll probably add a couple of short books and a graphic novel to the pile and may just grab something entirely different depending on how I feel. We shall see.

Different Aspects by Michael Ball The Stars Are Fire by Anita Shreve 1588 A Calendar of Crime (Hew Cullan Mystery) by Shirley Mckay Pandora's Jar Women in the Greek Myths by Natalie Haynes

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Looks like you’re all set to go Kate!
Busy month here as well so my irl Dewey- buddy and I decided to rent a place so we can read in peace (usually we only do that for April’s Dewey).
Hope you’ll have some reading time next to the birthday party!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1437 comments I have several in progress too, not sure how I've ended up with so many reading and getting distracted - -- yeah nevermind, I do know how I did that, because I always seem to do that lol

Happy Read-a-thon Pre-Week!

message 434: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Hello Susy! I love the idea of renting a place for Deweys. What a great idea. Hope you have a great time away and get a lot of reading done!

message 435: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Hi Erin, there's nothing wrong with having a few on the go at once. It helps with mood reading!
Happy Pre-readathon week to you too!

Kate | 646 comments I'll be starting at 1pm UK time. Haven't got much of a plan this time but I'm hoping to read to my niece and nephew later today. I'll be taking some kids books with me! If I manage a couple of hours I'll be happy.

Kate | 646 comments Made a good start with almost 2 solid hours of reading and 69 pages read so far.
Things will get a little disrupted from here on and I'm not sure I'll get to post much but at least I've participated early on.

Enjoy your reading and I'll be back when I can.

message 443: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I'm back for a quick update. Its 11pm here and I think we are on hour 11.
Since my first 2 hours I've managed to read to the kids so I can add another 45 minutes and 192 pages to my stats. Kids books certainly help with the page count! ha ha.
Now a bit of late night reading for me so I'm back to Michael Ball's Different Aspects
Next up date will be in the morning.

message 444: by Susy (new)
