JanEyre9 Hi Tammie, I'm still going to participate in the buddy read for The Fault in Our Stars, it looks like someone else in the BR chat hasn't start the book yet either so we'll be able to chat together about it. I'm not reading it for the classes though, just to read it and get BR points :)

April...thank you for checking in! I think we all understand how RL can get in the way of our reading...

Our Planning SS shows you reading:
-Gideon Smith and the Mechanical Girl
-Iron Gold

If you can, confirm what you are reading/read...this helps us with our team planning...much appreciated!

ATTENTION HOUSE GRYFFINDOR

Sign-ups are still open for Quidditch Round 2. Please head over to the Lion's Den and see what all is involved.

Gryffindor really had a blast last Round, it's not as scary as it seems!!

Looking forward to seeing you in the Common Room!

message 807: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 2127 comments Stephen King is an acquired taste :D
His books are usually hard to read. First half is usually slow and boring, full of irrelevant information and repetition, but the second half rushes by because it finally picks up some action.
The shining was an okay read. I like the Green mile best. Skeleton crew is my least favorite so far...

message 811: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments So, should I read Silver Linings Playbook early to finish a class before the Tri-Wizard? Or should I wait until the BR starts so we can get the BR points? Or can I get points for both if I read it early but still actively discuss the book?

Tammie | 4553 comments Sorry about that...
Quidditch Round Two

Not only has Madam Hooch become VERY generous with points for Quidditch players, but there have also been some rule changes based on your Captain's feedback, which we hope will encourage more players on the field! Round two will be not quite as fast and furious as round one!

Important points about round two:

Seeker: Role has not changed

Chaser:
1. other team members can read for the first Quaffle. The announcer needs to nominate the readers before the Quaffle reading begins in the game thread

2. The page count requirement for option 1 has been reduced to 500 pages, but with a minimum reading time of 4 hours

3. Round two has minimum reading times:
35 mins for 100 pages, 1 hour for 150 pages, 1.5 hours for 200 pages, 2 hours for 300 pages, 2.5 hours for 350 pages, 3 hours for 400 pages.
Round page numbers (so if reading 375 pages would be 3 hours, 374 pages would be 2.5 hours)

Beater: Role has not changed

Keeper: re-read rule does not count for Quidditch (i.e. can re-read a book within 6 months)

Reserves: Can take any role except Seeker. Can step in for a minimum of 24 hours. Announcer needs to announce in game thread

Timing Round 2 - 7 days for game. Snitch released after 5

2nd Match: 23 June - 30 June
Gryffindor X Hufflepuff
Ravenclaw X Slytherin

message 841: by Tammie (last edited Jun 17, 2018 11:29AM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments ****Attention Gryffindor****

Would you like to help the team, but the idea of playing the whole Quidditch game is a bit overwhelming? Now is your chance!

One of the rule changes allows for any Gryffindor to assist with the first Quaffle. It’s a spell-it-out, using titles and author only.

Check your available books. Have anything you’d like to read that fulfills any of those letters? Have anything not on kindle unlimited or not super easy to get a hold of? Have something over 250p that you could get done quickly once the match starts?

The faster the Quaffle gets completed, the faster our Chasers can hit the field to start trying for points.

If you think you can help, head over to the 2nd match folder and let us know.

Thanks!

Not sure if I read this before but what is the minimum pgs per book to read if you're a Chaser? I read a fair amount of books but I'm not a fast reader.

message 844: by Tammie (last edited Jun 17, 2018 11:57AM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments I’ll defer to Chava...but I think it depends on the chain you are working...three person chain is short...one person is 500 pgs. They’ve set time limits so the chasers are pretty fast readers...

Here’s the Match 2 chaser thread if you want to follow what they are doing..so far they are lining up possible books so they are ready when it’s time...a very smart strategy...
