Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments It looks beautiful. My boyfriend couldn't get the time off as we are going to Mexico the week before. So I am bringing my daughter. I actually get a lot of free time while I'm there. The trade show is only about 5 hours total over 2 days and then there's 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners and an optional golf day. We're going to take a day and go to Jefferson City. My daughter and I are both into historical stuff. We might go to the water park there and/or Ha Ha Tonka State Park. Maybe a winery. The company is paying for everything, even the fun stuff we do.

This was a buddy read that didn't happen. But I had to return it to the library and I'll have limited internet for 2 weeks starting this Saturday. So I decided to go ahead and finish and at least get credit for the read.

Finished:

Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

buddy read

just realized that this one wasn't on the spreadsheet at all so it's all updated.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Since I don't know how much reading and internet time I'll have on my 2 trips, I'm going to put the books I want to read soon on the spreadsheet planning page you gave me. Then if I have time to read and can log on to mark it finished, you can move it to the main spreadsheet easily. But if I don't, then they aren't clogging up the main spreadsheet.

To be honest, I can't guarantee that you'll like it because a lot of people don't. But I really love the series. It's really funny and engaging and perfect for the times when you want something that is fast-paced with a lighter tone.

Nothing in the captains' thread on timing or otherwise. They indicated last week around this time they were going to add more players first. They've done that...so hopefully the start is soon!

I'm working on some buddy reading...trying to get us some extra points in this short term...

Here's the current list of BRs if anyone wants to check out...there are a ton...I'm currently working on book 7 for Harry Potter and also Disgrace...that's under 'May' tab. -> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

message 1189: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Well if Tri-Wizard happens in the next 2 weeks, I will not be able to participate much. Hopefully you can make use of any books I manage to read and can actually log on and post finished. I likely be on very little next week. If they decide to end it as planned, I should be able to add some last minute books on the 29th before I leave for my business trip. I'll be on more during the business trip.

It took me 3 weeks to finish this. I read about 70-100 pages per day. It is slow-moving and as per usual in SK books - too much irrelevant info, like
"Ben goes to a bar, and he reminds me of how once upon a time there was this town drunk Arnold, who was born there, had such and such parents, had such and such work experience, such and such personality...
We were talking about Ben.
Oh, right, Ben. So Arnold.."
And it goes like this a looooot.

And I do not suggest this unless you have strong nerves. All those murdered children and dismembered bodies in a lot of gruesome details is not a pleasant read. Plus the language in this one is very crude and I would even say vulgar at some points.

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Added in my books for the end of July and early August that I'm planning on reading to the spreadsheet. It may change once we get information about the Tri-Wizard and/or another round of Quidditch. I had planned on participating in the BOM for the Tattooist of Auschwitz until I realized we can't get the book here until September.

It looks like a good book...not understanding how that made BOM for this timing.

message 1197: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Same here Kate, I wanted to do the BOM read but my library system (it pulls from about 30 libraries that we can borrow from) only had 3 copies and they have multiple holds already. More are being processed but I have no idea when I'll actually get one.

I'll get a new phone tomorrow, so maybe then I will get it back from the cloud and can start reading "I hunt killers" and maybe "Tattooist of Auschwitz", but we will see how much data I get back so no promises...
