Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm back from Mexico. I don't really have time to go through the Tri-Wizard stuff before I leave for my business trip on Monday. But I can certainly list letters for the books I finished/started in Mexico.

Tomorrow I need to run some errands, do laundry and repack. If I have some down time, I will at least look at the tri-wizard stuff so I know if I need to keep an eye out for certain letters, aspects, etc..,

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Wow. We are going to be busy. Really glad I invested in a new French press and have no work travel scheduled for August!

*Edit -
So after reading the rules in depth.....
Question 1 - After we complete the 9 tasks (3 books x 3 tasks per book), can we only go back and complete additional tasks within those 3 books (2 remaining tasks in each book) OR can we go back and complete any tasks from any of the books?

Question 2 - Captains, how do we want to approach picking? That's a lot to contemplate. As I read the tasks it feels like they get more accessible/diverse as the books progress.

And holy crap - between TT, Q3, and Characters I am literally going to be doing nothing else.

I agree. No idea how we will manage Tri-Wizard, Q3 and Characters all together. August is going to be hectic it seems.
Can books we use for Tri-wizard be used for characters? Probably not, right?

message 1331: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Ahh time crunch! I had to abandon my BR for Sharp Objects. Well, not abandon since I will still finish and participate but I'm not going to to scramble to finish before tomorrow. It's so popular now because of the HBO series so I could only get the audio CD which I can only really listen to in my car. Alas, I can't sit in my car for 6 hours :( Focusing on A Darker Shade of Magic and Dark Places to get some last minute BR points.

message 1333: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments I might be reading it wrong, but isn't the Tri-wizard by house? Doesn't that mean we have to coordinate with several other groups for this? It's going to be hectic, messy and chaotic, but oh so much fun. I agree that we'll need to use some kind of strategy

message 1334: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Chava, I think the initial tasks are done by individual teams and then the maze portion is done by house. I'm unclear when that part starts or how we coordinate though.

Just getting to this...any suggestions are welcome

I think we likely need a sheet in our planning SS for this....give me an hour and I’ll think more...

If anyone wants to play quidditch please sign up...it only 5 days this round...I’m guessing the mods gave in as there were several that were disappointed the tournament wasn’t going to technically finish. Link to Team Rooster: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 1339: by Tammie (last edited Jul 30, 2018 08:01AM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments I don’t see any specific logistical details on the maze yet.

I’ll start with a suggestion and we can work on adding/deciding from there.

Let’s get our 1st three books determined ASAP....and get those on the Planning SS so we can claim books. I’m going to suggest that we claim ahead no more than what we can do in a week so we can keep things moving..we have a MAZE to contend with too...that’s still a mystery detail wise.

*Only three tasks out of five need to be done per book...we’ll want to avoid ‘wasting’ our books so it’s important that we narrow things down before committing.

*Unless there are other opinions, we can leave it to captains to pick...might be easier that way too...thoughts and other suggestions welcome!

message 1340: by JanEyre9 (last edited Jul 30, 2018 08:21AM) (new)

JanEyre9 I am fine with any books and tasks! If it helps at all I was already planning on reading Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch and Grey Sister which could immediately knock out 2 of the tasks for Chamber of Secrets task 2

message 1341: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments I am also fine with any books/tasks although I think the more open-ended the tasks the better. I do think the faster we do this and can claim several books the better. After looking through the tasks several times I think I like Azkaban and Goblet of Fire my favorites but I'm really open to doing any of them.

I archived two books I don't think I'm going to finish in the next 24 hours and took them off the spreadsheet and my TT list. I wasn't sure what the commitments were going to be for the TriWiz and wasn't anticipating characters and Q3. Obviously it's going to be a lot and I will want to read shorter, faster books (neither of these were going quickly). If I have time I might keep working on them to see if I can get them in before the end of the challenge, but probably not.

Here we go.........

message 1342: by Tammie (last edited Jul 30, 2018 04:55PM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments Checking back in...it looks like Ashley has our Planning Sheet set up for Tri Wizard. It's likely we'll finish quite a few of these...but let's start with Kate and JanE's picks:
Chamber of Secrets
Prisoner of Azkaban
Goblet of Fire

Once 3 tasks are fully claimed, please stop for that Book and move to one of these other. I'm going to put a note by each of these books on the SS as a reminder.

Also, please don't over-commit...let's stick to claiming what we can read for one week at a time...for some of us that may be multiple books, for others just one...which is just fine. Heavy readers let's let everyone get in there...no book hogging...hehe!

Please keep checking in here and look backward for communication...this is more like past TT challenges and communication is very important. Even if you aren't finished...please try to check in often and let us know you are out there working on your book.

Ashley or I will likely post a list here for those who can't access the Planning SS...if everyone could please help keep the Planning SS update especially for claiming posts, that would be greatly appreciated!

I'll work on our first list next...
