Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion
Tower Teams VI
>
Team Minerva McGonagall

We need several books: a character uses fortuneteller/divination tools
We need several defense against the dark arts where:
"Book 1: Mentions a Dark Art / Creature
Example: Moon Called by Patricia Briggs (Werewolves)"
"Book 2: Title contains a way of defense
Example: Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs (Silver)"
Depending on the content it may work for either of these...

I realized that I am 10 books behind on my reading challenge goal for the year. I need to step things up. And the number is only 10 because I marked a couple of cookbooks as read.

The cover has Stars on it
Book is about Aliens invading Earth...Aliens need Gold to survive and they plan to overtake the planet
Guy on cover is the Alien (in a human body he stole) running with human female

Mary not to burst your bubble but one of the rules:
◈ No graphic novels, cookbooks or poetry. (Sorry.)
:(

Sorry Mary...I misunderstood your comment

Jan...this DAtDA seems to pretty obvious to you...we've got several Harry Potter books read (we used some for spellout we could move around)...could you think how we could use these for this class and we captains can figure out how to move things around with spells? Everyone's done a nice job of keeping track of characters...so hopefully it would work for at least some...

How significant does the dark art have to be in the book? Can it be something that's only mentioned once or does there have to be a major scene that involves it?

And in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (view spoiler)

And in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban [sp..."
I think so yes...I'll defer to Ashley on this we have 6 HP books done or in process.... I do think this works...I'll go ahead and look at spells and see if I can move things around Ashley (will highlight in some way)...I've got some down time here at the office this afternoon...
*Ashley...I found two alts for V which I highlighted in green...waiting on a A to open up. I didn't move anything around deciding to defer to you as I see you've started entering a few classes...

Karen and ALL:
When you finish your BRs, please note that you did a BR in your 'completion post'. Also, please post the first post you make in the post as a 'link' to that first post.
In your case Karen...do so as well...we know that unless we are a member of that group, we won't have access...but if the mods want to check, I'm sure at least one of them have access.
If you look at our Planning SS, I noted I was reading BOM or BR next to my name...that will also help us to be sure we don't miss something.

I am a bit busy today with University and such, but I will try to catch up with you during the weekend, since right now, I am not sure what I am supposed to do exactly. Honestly wasn't expecting to get assigned so fast :D
But the good news is that all the books I have read since challenge started count so I might be able to help with those as soon as I catch up with the game :)

Maddy Welcome!
I'm one of the co-captains...i'll link you to the beginning of our thread...if you have time, please rummage through our posts and get to know us a bit. Our team captain Ashley set some questions there for us to help introduce ourselves to each other and so you'll learn a bit about us...she lives in Australia so her day is just about over... I think just over 1/2 of our team is from the U.S. and the others from India, Canada and Australia
We're currently working on classes mostly...awaiting Quidditch which is supposed to start this weekend...not sure if they will delay that or not.

Hey Natesha...I just read this for the first time...I hope you liked it! Did you do the Buddy read with this? If so, could you put the 1st post you did for that here with your completion post?

April...I think we missed this Questions...yes buddy reads are just extras...this one's kinda yellow, orangish, brown...probably put it through the color extractor to be sure...

1. Where are you from?
I am from Latvia, Europe, so when USA goes to sleep, I wake up and vice versa.
2. Fun fact about you!
Fun fact about me is that I am not fun :D I work a full time job and some mod duties in FLOAB group here on Goodreads, study part time, eat candy most of the time, use smiley faces every time I write something and read books anytime when I can get away from people or get away with blatantly ignoring them (more often than you would think).
3. What was your last Tower Team, or are you a newbie?
Last TT I participated was last year TT V, but it seems like it happened such a long time ago, so I have forgotten everything (aka be patient with me).
4. First book you're planning to read
Uhhh.... I am a multireader. I have 10 books currently reading, so this is really hard...
5. Book or series that you recommend
I am a PNR fan, so Eve Langlais is my absolutely favorite along with Milly Taiden, Olivia Arran, T.S.Joyce, Anna Hackett etc. Contemporary - Nora Roberts & Susan Elizabeth Phillips, & Jennifer Cruzie & contemp./Historical rom. Karen Robards & Linda Francis Lee & I think I should stop now :D
6. Worst book you've read this year
this year I created a special shelf called "Wish I never touched it", and there are currently 10 books, so yeah.. too many.
I am too lazy to go through 8 pages of chat (sorry), but I read the rules and important info, so I am sure I will catch up. Books are always priority over people, so no offence if I do not talk much here ;)
I'll try to go through my already read books soon and post what I have if something fits.
My shelf is here - tower teams vi

Thank you Maddy...what a trooper. We'll get this entered on the SS for you!

Hey Maddy--There are two books I didn't record...1) the boxed set and 2) the book of Poetry.
Here are the rules that apply...if I've missed something though on either of these...let me know...the boxed set books individually are less than 100 pgs or we could have used.
◈ No graphic novels, cookbooks or poetry. (Sorry.)
◈Anything with the word" boxed set" in the title on Goodreads can not be used as "one book". They need to be shelved as separate books to count for this challenge.
You've really given us a boost with these reads...awesome!

Also, is there anything you need me to read for? Some specific task? Or should I just read what I want and earn page points? :D
Oh, and there were 2 poetry books - the sun and her flowers by rupi kaur and the goblin market by christina rosetti, so together 3 books I will remove from my shelf :)

Captains...we take what's recorded and move it to the Official SS...we haven't done alot with classes yet...some of the classes have to be 100% finished to allow for points...so we've been waiting to move to quickly there. Here's the links...you should be able to see the SS even if you can't yet record.
If you haven't already...send an IM to Ashley and she'll give you access to the Planning SS.
Just continue to leave your questions here and someone will answer them...
