Anna Hey guys, I know this is a RANDOM topic but, what book(s) are you reading right now?

John (jfcannon) | 30 comments As I was deleting generic cover images used on some Michener novels and replacing them with photos of the actual cover, I noticed that when I deleted the cover image the author was also deleted. Could this be fixed?

Otis Chandler | 315 comments Hi John,

That sounds very strange. Do you mean the author profile or just the author image? Can you give me a specific example of which book you were on?

I wonder if this is related to the odd missing second author from ~25 out of 30+ editions of The Nanny Diaries? I fixed it a couple days ago, but it was weird -- Amazon had both authors listed.

John (jfcannon) | 30 comments Hi Otis,
Thanks for your response. Here's an example that I just tried to be sure it still happens. I brought up Mexico by James A. Michener and clicked on "edit book." Then I clicked on "delete photo" and, when asked "Are you sure?", I clicked "OK." The cover disappeared, which I expected, since I had just deleted it. But the name of the author immediately below the title of the book also disappeared, which, of course, I didn't expect. [I don't know what you mean by "author profile or just the author image." On the edit page I get I only see the author's name; I don't see an author profile nor do I see an author image.] So I typed the author's name back in the "author*" box and then clicked on "save changes." [I saved the changes before adding the new cover image because of the problem I pointed out in my "Adding cover images" thread.] Then I went back into the edit book mode and added the new cover image.

I've been playing around with this and can offer the following new observations:

1) Now if I attempt to "save changes" after deleting the cover image and typing the author's name back in, I get an error message saying, "Photo is not a valid type or is too large." This is odd, because I just deleted the photo (cover image), so it can't be too large nor can it be an invalid type. This looks like the same issue Rivka mentions under the "Adding cover images" thread.

2) I tried to "save changes" after deleting the cover image and WITHOUT typing the author's name back in. I get the same error message mentioned in 1) above and the author's name reappears. Interesting. Now if I upload a cover image, the edit is immediately saved (as I mentioned in my "Adding cover images" thread) and the author's name is still there. This suggests that, while the author's name disappeared from the "author*" box, it wasn't actually deleted from the database.

I hope that's sufficient information to allow you to pinpoint and fix the error.

Otis Chandler | 315 comments Figured it out. It didn't actually break anything, but it did look strange. Will be fixed next release!
