Lez | 7490 comments Thanks Suzy. I actually want to get rid of MMS so I suppose I just reverse what they’re saying.

message 353: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I was thinking that if you manage to get into the MMs Settings then maybe you could default your Phone back into working like it was doing before?

Thanks, Suzy but I can’t work out how to do that!

Lez | 7490 comments New problem. On my iPad I keep getting bits of text highlighted in pink and the words ‘alternative not found’. If I just try to cancel or carry on, the text gets deleted. It’s just happened to a YouTube link when half of it disappeared. Any ideas?

Lez | 7490 comments My TV picture (Virgin Tivo) keeps breaking up. Any suggestions?

Tim Franklin | 10953 comments Cable? Internet? Satellite?

Possibly atmospherics.

My broadband was deadly (like dial-up) slow on Sunday morning. Turning the router off and on again sorted it

theDuke | 6492 comments I've been getting disruptions to both my internet service and picture quality issues on the gogglebox as well. I think it's just down to the thunderstorms everywhere atm.

message 359: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments Perhaps it is the weather. Reception is ususally pretty good, though the TV's 10 years old. No probs with broadband though.

Lez | 7490 comments Disaster! I can't get any sound on my iPad! I've tried Spotify, YTube, Bandcamp, etc.etc and all the buttons indicate they're playing but there's no sound.
Help!

You've not muted it somehow have you? On my old one, the single side switch (not the volume up/down pair) can be set to mute the beast. If yours is similar, Lez, take a look under General Settings to see if that's it.

message 362: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments Yes!
You're right, thanks so much.

message 364: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments How can I increase the volume on my iPad? Tim helped me unmute the sound and now I can hear it but only just. Settings seem to think I'm in Mexico!

message 365: by nocheese (new)

nocheese | 6824 comments You should have the up/down volume pair that Tim mentioned? Round the corner from the mute switch.

message 366: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments Thanks! I can be really dim sometimes.

message 367: by Tim (new)

Tim Franklin | 10953 comments nocheese wrote: "You should have the up/down volume pair that Tim mentioned? Round the corner from the mute switch."

Press the left hand side (as you look at the screen) for volume up, and the right hand end for volume down.

Lez | 7490 comments Thanks very much so far. Now something new. What about phones?
The bane of my life.
It's over a year since my sis could receive my texts, though I can receive hers. no prob with anyone else.
Anyway, today I can't set the alarm clock. I just get a screen with the words 'no alarms'! I can get 'World Clock', 'Timer', etc but no alarm.
Any ideas?
Samsung S4 Mini

I reckon that you must have wee folk living in your House, Lez?! ... fiddling with all of the Settings on all of your Gadgets while you are asleep?! Have you tried appealing to their better nature by leaving a Saucer of Milk and some Honey Cake out for them? ;o>

I don't have a Samsung but seeing as it's Android...

When you press the "Clock" icon on your app menu, select "Alarm" & if it doesn't bring up a list of previously set alarms (& is just showing you the symbol "No Alarms") there should be a big "+" (add) icon just underneath or somewhere on that screen. If you press that you should be able to select a specific time and set a new alarm.

?

Jolly good.

I have two Android devices, both different makes, neither are Samsung, but it's exactly the same on both of them so I assumed your Samsung would be similar.

Every Gordon Gekko in every trading room in the world wants to know what time it is in Falkirk.

message 377: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22152 comments Lez, you are not alone. I have an iPhone 6 and this iPad I'm on right now but I have no knowledge of the settings and I'm sure I only use a fraction of what both are capable of. I haven't a clue about the volume controls either so I just have to hope nothing changes/goes wrong or I'll have to go crawling to one of my children. I am much happier with my clunky old desktop (both of them). I have to keep the old 32 bit PC because CD-Trustee which indexes my 3000+ CD collection is a 32 bit program. Occasionally (after changes by our internet provider) I can't access the Internet on it. In a panic I ring my son. "Don't you remember Mum, check the date on the PC's clock!" I now have a text document on my desktop named Computer Fixes. First item? Check the clock. I don't understand why the clock resets itself to some long gone year and why that prevents me accessing the Internet but at least it's an easy fix.

Lez | 7490 comments Didn't know where to put this.
There's something very wrong with the 'Beyond Zon' forum. It says there are 4,603 posts unread but it's impossible to get at them. It also says there have been new comments from a moderator but that's not possible either.

message 380: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Feb 24, 2021 12:03PM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I'm not sure what you are looking at, Lez, because I know there are several different places and ways of checking up on Forum and Thread Notifications. All that I can tell you is that I've got no problems with the 'Beyond Zon' Forum or any Notifications.

Is it more likely to be the Device that you are using to check it out? That maybe the Cookies aren't clearing and that is why you have suddenly got so many Unread Posts showing up?

I wouldn't have thought that there was that many Posts unless it is registering the entire Forum with all of the Posts on it as being Unread - so have you somehow managed to remove yourself as Member of the Forum and that is why every Post is showing up as being new to you?

Have you tried logging out and logging back into the Forum again to see if that corrects the fault? - or tried deleting all the Cookies being held in your Browser? Doing these things may mean that you will have to relog into everything else that you leave 'held' open for you on your Browser though.

Edit: Hmmm, you are still showing up as a Member when I look at the Forum?

I can't get any further when I try to open them!

message 382: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I'm not sure why but the Bell Icon rarely ever works for me like it always used to a couple of years ago - it tends to only take me to the first page of the Thread and and tell me in a Pop-up, that I now ignore, that the new Comment has been deleted when it hasn't and I have to scroll forward to the last page and last Post to get to see any new ones.

What I do instead is ... click on the Speech Bubbles Icon to the right of the Bell Icon ... and that pulls up abbreviated Listings of any recent activity on both Forums. Then I can choose to click on either to see any new Unread Posts on any of the Threads in that way, Lez.

Val H. | 22152 comments I have never used the bell icon. I go to the Community tab at the top of this page. Click on it and it lists all the groups I am a member of. I can choose to open a forum or just the new posts. If you try that, is it still showing thousands of unread posts in Beyond Zon?

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I think the Tool Functions must differ according to Devices used then, Lez?

When I click on your Link it takes me straight into the open first page of ... Beyond Zon discussion - In The Kitchen - Chewing On Chow > What's On The Menu Today? ...

When I click on the Speech Bubbles Icon at the top of the page it always takes me here instead ...

https://www.goodreads.com/topic?ref=n...

... although I don't know where it might take you when you click on it when using your Device?

Maybe your problem relates more to the specific Device that you are currently using?

Have you tried Logging into Goodreads on anything else that you have? I seem to remember you saying you had a couple of things that you use?

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments 'Beyond Zon' was set up by Duke and so he was, and still is, a Moderator - and both Val and P then also volunteered to be Forum Moderators as well and so there are three Moderators ;o>

message 392: by theDuke (new)

theDuke | 6492 comments Opps.....hadn't seen this til now! There are three moderators on Beyond Zon, just to avoid the issue we had when the founder of the now defunct DND group we were in, pulled the plug on us without warning..after having gone awol some months before. That person was Apples...who very kindly chose to kick out a few regular posters & then lock the DND group, preventing anybody else from joining in. I wanted to make sure that couldn't happen again, so when i created the new group....i didn't want to be just the only moderator, hence P and Val stepped up. If i should disappear for any reason....Val or P can still run it and make any changes if they so wish.

Post Soviet (postsoviet) | 551 comments Got sick and tired of useless "reading list" stubbornly coming back to my mac chrome toolbar and wasting space. And those dependable on batteries like smartphones and laptops say chrome is very energy consuming. Decided changing default browser to something else. Tried Safari. Nah... don't like interface plus lack of favicons. Doing some exploration (reading reviews etc), oh I had Firefox before, was nice but felt bit clumsy, downloaded Opera and Brave, checked both,
and the winner is.... Brave!. Very good privacy settings, fast, compact, with its own add block shield, no bloody Reading list which means more space on toolbar. Happy now.
