I hope you are all continuing to enjoy Everybody Lies! Today I want to talk a bit about Chapter 3, Data Reimagined. In this chapter, Stephens-Davidowitz looks at "new" ways of obtaining data, or new ways we can use Big Data. The three big methods he discusses are:
Bodies as Data Words as Data Pictures as Data
Although, yes, the author does reference porn (once again!) at the outset of the chapter, I thought the rest of the information presented in this chapter was particularly fascinating. Which of these "new methods" did you find most interesting and why? From horses to dating, cussing to media bias and beyond, which stories resonated with you most and which "new data" do you think has the potential to help us learn the most in social science research? Was there anything you strongly disagreed with or felt the author left out?
