Happy Canada Day weekend, members! I imagine most of you are likely enjoying the holiday weekend with family and friends...but on the off chance you're staying cool and checking email, I thought I'd take this opportunity to wrap up our discussion on Everybody Lies.

Was there anything in the last few chapters that you felt really resonated with you? I may not be a male baseball fan, or even a particularly huge baseball fan, but I do love the Toronto Blue Jays. Therefore I found it interesting that Stephens-Davidowitz's research demonstrated that a huge predictor of Mets fandom was whether the team won the world series when male fans were around 8 years old. The Toronto Blue Jays won the world series in 1992 and 1993, when I was 9 and 10 years old and I've been a fan ever since!

Were you disturbed by the research on A/B testing? Do you have concerns about the ethical questions surrounding Big Data? As the author himself asks, "Do corporations have the right to judge our fitness for their services based on abstract but statistically predictive criteria not directly related to those services?" (p.261) Can data science lead to unfair discrimination or exploitation?

I do hope you enjoyed reading this title along with me this month, and please join us next week as we begin discussing The Cadaver King and the Country Dentist!
