Books2Movies Club discussion

This is one of those books I would encourage most people to read in terms of children's fiction and fantasy. It also happens that there is a wonderful animated film based upon it (with slight differences that affect the overall themes). Feel free to read, watch and comment about the film and book!

I first saw the film and fell in love with it. So I decided to read the book. It was nice but nothing as enigmatic as the film. I know it's sacrilege, but I prefer the film. Also, the protagonists seemed to gain complexity in the adaptation.

I'm definitely a fan of both. This was the first Studio Ghibli film I watched, after having seen the book and I really enjoyed the way it was adapted. There was humour, warmth and a sense of emotional poignancy to the film...

Absolutely lovely story with imaginative elements and adorable characters. I just finished the first book and can't wait to watch Ghibli's version. Does the movie cover the first book or should I read the sequel too? What do you recommend? =)

I'd like to watch it with Japanese audio to brush up on my Japanese, but with English subs.

You don't need the second book to watch the film.
Also: The English subtitles are based on the English audio, so they don't always fit the Japanese audio. Have fun watching!
