Mark (markmtz) | 2822 comments Finished the book and enjoyed it for what it is, a straightforward adventure, without any subtlety. I don't think I'll continue reading the series, but the movie trailers look interesting. For the movie, the main characters are older, twenty-somethings instead of teens, so they're shifting away from the target age group of the book a little.

Anyway, if you don't like the book, there are alternative MEs. Already mentioned in the announcement thread is Mortal Engines by Stanisław Lem, a collection of short stories that reveal Lem’s fascination with artificial intelligence.

Mortal Engines: The Science of Performance and the Dehumanization of Sport by John M. Hoberman where the author reflects on the future of sport as we enter a new era of unprecedented developments in genetic engineering and hormonal manipulation.

Mortal Engines and The Color Of The Moon Stories of Strange Love by C. Sanchez-Garcia where where a man seeks a last chance at redemption with a desperate machine built for love.

These alt MEs all seem to be about humanoid engines rather than cities, but hey, whatever runs you traction treads. Fun stuff!
