Liz (liz_the_librarian) With less than 5 months to go, how is everyone doing with their goal?

Edit: I misread my spreadhseet :( And I'm at 60 books read (out of 75, from my goal). I thought I still had a bit to go to meet my goal. Oh well.

The book that got me to 60 was Rise of the Horde, a book that follows the lore from the Warcraft games.

I'm also listening to The Martian this week. I highly, highly recommend this book. It's a sci-fi, survival story with lots of fun science and space facts. I only wish the author, Andy Weir, had more books out there.

What is everyone reading this week?

Julie | 130 comments I'm very close to finishing Sahara (Dirk Pitt, #11) by Clive Cussler .

I listened to Fudge Cupcake Murder (Hannah Swensen, #5) by Joanne Fluke last week, and I think I may start Sugar Cookie Murder (Hannah Swensen, #6) by Joanne Fluke next.

As far as my goal (52 books) I'm a couple of books behind. However since I've started listening to more audio books recently, I think I'll catch up soon.

Audibooks are wonderful! I can't believe I never listened to them before this year!

Julie | 130 comments Oh my, that is hard to believe!

I really like audio books, but the last few months I had somewhat fallen out of my habit of listening to them.

Some books I actually enjoy the audio book version better than reading it myself! There are some fantastic narrators out there.

I totally agree. The narrator will make or break a book for me. I think the best I listened to this year was the His Dark Materials trilogy followed closed by Ready Player One.

I find I prefer to listen to non-fiction on audiobook rather than fiction. I seem to retain more of what I "read" that way. However, I recently thought it would be fun to listen to "The Shining" on audio. And you are correct: the narrator can make or break a book. I was really disappointed with the version of The Shining I listened to; I thought it would be scarier to listen to than to read, and I was disappointed.

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments This past week I read (the last is the one I'm currently reading): Murder on Mulberry Bend (Gaslight Mystery, #5) by Victoria Thompson Murder on Marble Row (Gaslight Mystery, #6) by Victoria Thompson Murder on Lenox Hill (Gaslight Mystery, #7) by Victoria Thompson Murder in Little Italy (Gaslight Mystery, #8) by Victoria Thompson Murder in Chinatown (Gaslight Mystery, #9) by Victoria Thompson
Can't wait to get caught up with the series, evidently something big has happened in one of the books I haven't read yet.

I'm almost finished listening to The Lightning Thief and then on to The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #2) by Rick Riordan .

This week I finished reading Murder on Gramercy Park and Murder on Washington Square by Victoria Thompson. I am currently reading Murder on Mulberry Bend by the same author. The Gaslight Murder series has sparked my interest in true crime stories from the Victorian era and the early 20th century. I picked up The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher by Kate Summerscale.
