Place Frankenstein’s creature in modern times. Suppose he had a family that raises him, includes him, and even enrolls him in school. How might today’s society treat Victor’s creature differently? How would it mimic the time period of the novel?

Shelly’s primary interest is the effect of Frankenstein’s rejection on the creature’s psyche. The creature is made to be evil when he is rejected by his creator. If Frankenstein had assured the creature of his worth from the beginning, the book would have been very different, but there would still be a lot of challenges. Everyone the creature meets rejects him, so the modern book would be about accepting people as they are. It would be a best-seller this year and forgotten next year.
