The show seems a bit discombobulated through the first few eps, but that's partially because they're just telling the story a bit at a time, and twists come left and right. By the end, the series is phenomenal. They're doing a second season, but I don't know if they're actually planning to continue the story line or start a completely new one.
And the show was much better than the book.

From what I understand, the second season will be a new case. I believe Bill Pullman will be back.
I just started watching the series on Netflix last night and made it through two episodes. (I have not yet read the book by Petra Hammesfahr.)
Initially, I found the first episode a little boring, yet pretty horrific in Cora's obvious dislike of her life (except for maybe her son). However, the murder scene was quite graphic and I was really surprised by that.
By the second episode it looks like we're learning a bit more about Cora's past. (My husband thinks he has the answer to it all. We shall see if he is correct.)
I plan to watch a couple more episodes this evening.
