Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments Alrighty, Aficionados, the August group read is approaching rapidly so let’s get some ideas rolling. Since we are well into the dog days of summer, our theme for August is going to be Summertime Horror Reads. Anything set in summer or with a summertime theme or even just summer as a backdrop.

Books chosen for a group read within the past 6 months will not be eligible and authors may not nominate their own work.

Please remember, books with multiple nominations are more likely to make it to the final poll.

Go for it! Let’s see what Summer Horror we can come up with for August.

message 2: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) I nominate Wylding Hall.
It's a summer haunted-house novel set in the 1970s about an acid-folk band trying to write their new album in an isolated Tudor mansion.

Judy Cadena | 99 comments I nominate The Rib From Which I Remake the World by Ed Kurtz

The Rib From Which I Remake the World

I can't remember if it takes place in summer or if I just think it did because it's in the South and I just associate that with heat and summer.

message 17: by Barb (new)

Barb Elliott (rudebarb) | 1 comments Wylding Hall! It's on my to read list and this will bump it up. I've read all the other suggestions.

I'm going to somewhat hesitantly suggest The Summer that Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel . I hesitate only because it's not strictly horror in the way we often think of horror. But it has an emotional impact to knock you off your feet. It's among the best books I've ever read and yes, it most certainly deals with summer and heat and hey, is that new kid in town, could he be, the devil?

Joe Piccoli | 186 comments I’ll second ruins!
