I'm not sure how far Iain made it, but we can listen to it together 😬

Cool!!! I didn’t know that tidbit!

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments A quick clarification, because the audio topic has been discussed recently. I'm thinking of listening to some audible originals like Stephen Fry's Victorian Secrets. Can I put these on my tracker and get points for them? If yes, is there an agreed upon page count per listening length?

Yes... any audio-only entry on Goodreads can be counted as 30 pages per hour, or a page every 2 minutes... that was cleared up when Shaitarn asked about Doctor Who tie-ins, I think...

message 307: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments But Stephen Fry's Victorian Secrets is an audible original podcast...

I thought the distinguishing factor was whether the "book" is listed on Goodreads...

I only know about it because it was one of the free Audible original options a few months ago... it sounds like the 12 episodes were collected into a single audiobook and sold on Audible...

message 309: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments @Iain, yes, the combined time of the finished audiobook is 7h 40m. If it's not okay to count it then that's fine I just wanted clarification since i'll be logging it on goodreads anyway and there's a few other Audible Originals I fancy that I'll likely listen to too.

I think it's fine, even if it started as a mini-podcast... the distinguishing factor in not being able to count Authors and Dragons vs Shaitarn's Doctor Who serials, was that Authors and Dragons isn't listed on Goodreads... Victorian Secrets is, as your link attests... it's basically a nonfiction book...

Also... I picked up the "book" back in December when it was available for free, so I could Buddy Read it with you... I love Victorian stuff

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments Yay, shall we BR it next week, I love Victorian stuff too.

Well, if that's the only problem, I can add it :)

Until a Master Librarian or a maintenance protocol comes along and checks if your "book" has a valid ISBN or ASIN associated with it...

There are a lot of books without ISBN/ASIN on Goodreads, Web Series like Worm for example

I just remember that was the reasoning when Librarians/Goodreads started deleting all the Web-Magazines with short stories in them that Lena and others liked a year or two ago...

Is there a page minimum for this challenge?

Nope. A bunch of us included The Future of Work: Compulsory, which is 4 pages.

If someone started taking advantage and read 500 five page stories so they could round up a bunch of points, they might implement one next year, tho...

I mean surely that's as much effort as reading a 2000 page book though 😂

Might be, but due the rounding you would get 50 points for 500 x 5 pages instead of 25 points for 2000 pages...

message 325: by Siobhan (last edited Jul 17, 2019 01:09AM) (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8703 comments Ohhh I see what you mean. 5 pages would be 0.05 points but it rounds to 0.1.
I'm with you.

message 326: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 35353 comments Mod
It's worse than that... if you Buddy Read with someone, the BR points would round from 0.016 to 0.1, and the challange points would round from 0.005 to 0.1 as well... that's 100 or 150 points... I think the 2000 page book could hit 35 points maybe, if you BR'd and challenged and "read with eyes" for 25% multiplier...

The effort comes in adding 500 short stories to the spreadsheet :)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8703 comments Wow we're all doing this wrong reading massive books! Let's find us some more 5 page ones! 😂

Haha, poetry here we come!

I've recently got some comics I want to read but I debated putting them on the spreadsheet since they're not many pages anyway and graphic books take a bit hit in points. It's probably not going to be worth adding them.

I think Disney has a kids anthology called Five-Minute Bedtime Stories

I know what you mean, I read some graphic novels last year and the points were miniscule.
