But I'm entering one of my scripts in Coppola's 'American Zoetrope' contest this month so he's on my mind lately.
Several of his own scripts are available online for purchase or free. I knew well his writing of 1974's 'The Great Gatsby' (still the best version) but I hadn't known he had earlier written the script for 'Patton' starring George C. Scott. Astounding.
Essayists are correct when they note that Francis Ford Coppola was involved with perhaps the two most impactful American dramas in the entire Twentieth-Century: 'Gatsby' and 'The Godfather'. As well as 'Apocalypse Now', the definitive Vietnam movie. It's just crazy that he has all these tremendous writing credits.
Anyway. I've been reading everything from Coppola I can.
The superb suspense flick, 'The Conversation' (from he and Puzo, also 1974) is currently before me, and is talked about in these links.
