Ed | 67 comments I haven't gotten very far yet so I will wait until a few days but does anyone right now have a favorite character...and why...are these characters easy to identify with?

I'm loving Hiro. Very self-assured and somewhat eccentric is my cup of tea.

message 3: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 90 comments I like that Kourier girl in the beginning. That's my kind of lady!

message 4: by Angie (new)

Angie | 342 comments I have finished the book, and I love Y.T.! I love how her character is funky.. takes no crap. A free spirit.

J-Lynn Van Pelt | 118 comments I am only half way through the book, but Hiro is definitely growing on me. At first I wasn't sure if i was supposed to identify or connect with him. The third person narrative seemed really far removed, but Hiro keeps cracking me up--especially the analogies and similes that Stephenson employs to describe Hiro's realizations.

"...he finally went through a belated, dim-witted epiphany, not a briliant light shining down from heaven, more like the brown glimmer of a half-dead flashlight from the top of a stepladder..." (pg 59)

KristenR (klrenn) | 124 comments I liked Y.T. and I also liked Raven (though I'm not sure if I was supposed to like him or not.) I had a picture in my head about what he looked like, and then I realized that in my head he looked like the big guy that was just voted off Survivor!

message 7: by Trina (new)

Trina (trieb) | 5 comments I think Y.T. is cool as heck.

(Nell from Stephenson's The Diamond Age reminds me of a much cooler version of Y.T.)

message 8: by Robert (new)

Robert (bigbobbiek) I'm also really enjoying Y.T. She's got a spunky attitude that is just hard not to love.

message 9: by Travis (last edited Mar 14, 2008 02:34PM) (new)

Travis | 15 comments Definitely Y.T. Her attitude is classic and nothing seems to faze her.

Favorite supporting character is Fido. "Jack the sound barrier. Bring the noise."

message 10: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Griffin | 35 comments Y.T. is the best! She has great courage and I admire that in a person.

message 11: by Angie (new)

Angie | 342 comments I think it is kinda neat that most people picked YT as their favorite character. The author did a real good job with getting the reader to relate to YT!
