Are Goodreads members still notified when they are sent a private email through the site? At one time, if I sent a private email to someone in a group I belong to, Goodreads notified them about the email. Weeks ago I sent someone an email through Goodreads. He's always prompt in replying, but I haven't heard back from him. Recently I sent out emails and had no response as well.

Hi Marian, all members should receive an onsite notification (small, red number appears on the envelope icon) when they've received a private message. Opting out of this is not possible.

In addition to that, members can also choose to receive an email notification about the private message to their private email address (gmail, yahoo, outlook etc). Here's how one could set this up, if one was so inclined:

1. Go to your Emails tab in Account Settings.
2. Scroll down to the "Event Notifications" header and check the following box:



3. Remember to submit any changes by clicking the "Save email settings" button at the very bottom of the page.
