And nice thinking, YouKneek. I wish everywhere accepted html inputs like Goodreads! Diacritics and umlauts are an über-pain otherwise.
Japanese input defaults to full-width, so that’s my usual workaround。
<b>Text</b>

- images don't show and cut off anything after
- underline doesn't show
What else? I have no idea what it is about this text that makes it not show, the first character not shown is an exclamation mark, so is that something that you've noticed before? I'm sorry guys, I'm extremely frustrated, I don't have the patience required to test every f*cking character to see what works and doesn't work, when I'm just trying to post a simple written instruction for a system we wouldn't need if GR got their shit together :S
edit: Another test cuts off at the blockquote tag, so I guess those don't work either?

that's the problem I usually have.

you don't download it from Goodreads - you download it from whichever site you bought it from (Amazon, Nook, iBooks, etc)

go to the Amazon website
click on Customer Service on the top and/or bottom of any Amazon webpage
click on Need more help?
select Contact Us (Chat and Phone are both available)
and I recommend doing this on a computer using a browser (preferably not Chrome)

Essentially the survey is for my own market research purposes. I won't be collecting any personal information (e.g. email, name, address, user names etc). It is all anonymous.
I (hopefully) explain the purpose of the survey in the introduction which is : "This is a survey all about SciFi and Fantasy fiction.
I’m doing this because I’d like to find out more about what you guys – the readers – would most like to see in 2021.
This is a market research survey so all your answers are anonymous – that means I won’t be linking them to your name or email address etc."
I can send a link to the survey for review by a moderator (you can then complete it yourself and see exactly what information is being collected).
I'll share the highlights/most interesting stuff with the group once I have enough responses.
Hi Paul,
The issue is that when the population is already constrained to a community such as ours, a lot more becomes PII. If you have nationality, age range, and gender, I could likely make a pretty educated guess. So it could not contain any information of a personal nature whatsoever, especially if you're going to share the results.
Furthermore, generally for scientific studies Anna or I would speak to the legitimacy of the research--here I'd have to disclose instead that this is at their own risk for someone else's personal use. We don't have any rules against this per se, but I am fiercely protective of our group's time, rights, and the space we've created for readers' enjoyment. I get that you're not doing anything nefarious, but it's sort of uncouth to inform 27,000+ fans that have congregated to enjoy books together that you're gonna mine 'em for data that won't be potentially useful to posterity.
I won't stop you, but I hope you think about the potential value you'll gain vs. the frustration you'll sow.

Hi David!
If you want to just tell us what you're reading, not looking for dialogue, you can bring that right to the What Else thread here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
If you're looking for buddies to discuss something with, I'd recommend a bit of forethought and communication. Try the Short Fic Buddy Read thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....
Then yeah, once you have your buddy(ies), you'd start a thread for the work(s) with any rules you think make sense to discuss nicely (like including page number) and have fun!

So what went 'wrong' with the botm spoiler thread being started at the same time as the first impressions thread experiment?

I think it's going fine?
edit: If you mean that I haven't edited the first impressions posts with links yet, then yes, I've been lazy and haven't done that yet, because I was in bed reading when Allison posted the threads and couldn't do it immediately. That's the secret to my "effiency", doing everything immediately, because if I don't, it never gets done!
edit2: I should probably treat this as an immediate situation and go do it right now :D
edit3: Done :)
Oh. I couldn't see the spoiler thread in my notifications and just assumed they hadn't been made yet. Gotta love the functionality of the GR app.

No, sorry! Not unless it tells one story through short stories, like The Gilda Stories
We haven't landed on a way to have meaningful conversation about each short story without spoiling other stories for folks, while still having no more than 2 threads.

Since it tends to come up, we've updated the FAQ at the top of this thread to address short work compilations. Keep the questions coming, thanks for the push!

Hello. Just curious how often do you do events in the SFFBC group?

Hi Mark! Welcome!
We do not do events. Sorry! We have things for readers like trivia nights and virtual book clubs, but we don't do anything through the event system here.

Hey Mark T. Sneed! I'm no mod but... Every month we have two official group reads that are decided upon via polls. We also have two rereads of books already on the groups shelf.
There's a monthly virtual book chat via zoom where we discuss one of the four books from above.
There are other unofficial SFF book related shenanigans like buddy reads that you can join in or start yourself.

Don't worry, the old one will be back by tomorrow :)
For those wondering why we're the SciFi and Fantasy BunniCula today, here's why:
April 1st, 2019
April 1st, 2020
We also have a Bunnicula buddy read! ^_^

When an individual GR member recommends a book to me, I want to put their name in that box as the person who recommended it to me on my review page. But for whatever reason, I can't seem to do it right and make it clickable.
I can't seem to click enter at the right time or whatever I'm supposed to do. Auto-complete comes up with the right person, I click enter, and all that shows up in the box is the bit that I typed. Otoh, if I type the whole name, it's not clickable to their profile. Tell me as if I'm stupid please!
