coincidentally, this week a friend sent a link to me about a project by the bbc who are preparing an 8 part detailed history of the clash for podcast release. they are looking for people who were in attendance at half a dozen of their most iconic shows, one of which was the apollo 1978 riotous event. being there, i fired in an email with a recollection of the night, and this has been forwarded to the bbc for consideration. if anyone was at any of the following, or feels they may have something to contribute, generally, contact,Anthony Davie at [email protected]

After Rob (and the technical tidy)...If we're really going for more obscure tracks I feel like I should be nominating Lose This Skin. I'd like to nominate The Magnificent Seven or Straight to Hell (the much, much better double-A-side of Should I Stay or Should I Go?). But I'm going to go for this collaboration with Allen Ginsberg, partly in the - probably vain - hope of making Lez see the error of her ways.

gordon, i also thought 'lose this skin' - wondrous piece of work, but more like a guest appearance really - typical of the clash's generosity tho'!been a hot week for me re. the clash - received and have replied to email from bbc on the clash podcasts, fleshing out a few details - they've asked me to provide my phone number for a chat, so mibbe i'll get a wee feature on it? who knows?

okeedokee,great interesting list, heavy on 'combat rock' (nowt wrong with that, but no 'know your rights'? - arguably their best ever single!), and nothing from the first 2 albums? however, didn't need to listen to list, but doing so anyway,
4 - complete (produced? by scratch - allegedly looked in to the studio, twiddled a couple of knobs, then left - classic anyroads!)
3 - armagideon - (always wished the clash would've released a complete reggae based album)
2 - england - ('sandinista', even after all these years still throws up surprises and sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday!)
1 - ghetto - (combat rock, even 'the hits', which suffer from overplay, are great songs on a superb album, which should have been their last)

just to blow my own trumpety, i was talking again to the bbc, of course, and it seems they want to use me for the clash podcast - they said they'd call later in the week for details on recording my contribution - seemingly the best way is over the phone.obvious they were only innarested in using super intelligent, super handsome individuals! :)

the clash were always a great show, purveyors of classic singles and albums (except 'cut the crap' which was mince!). as highly as i rate them i never liked or bought anything by the component members after they split!
Let's see if we can get a few of the more obscure tracks in to make it interesting.
