Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 1799 comments QUESTION ... I'm just a few spots from the summit and will finish this book soon.

For my next roll ... do I have to roll OFF the board to "win" ... do I still have to read a book if I roll past the summit?

For example, I have 3 spots to the summit. If I roll a 5 do I still read a book from the Dark Green category? Or have I automatically finished by rolling past the summit?

If I roll exactly a 3 .. putting me right at the summit ... I obviously have to read a book for that spot. Do I then have to roll again to get past the summit? Do I have to read another book?

(Hope that made sense)

message 112: by Jan, Moderator (new)

Jan | 20742 comments Hi BC! If you roll anything that gets you to the Done Square or past it you do not need to read another book.

Hope that answers your questions....good luck with that final roll.

LIGHT GREEN: GETTING THERE
✔1. Many visitors choose to hike to MP. With different trails that vary in length and experience, there is one that fits every hiking preference. ✜ Read a book that fits your current mood or genre preference. - Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie 11/7/18
✔2. The Classic Inca Trail is the most popular route. It follows the path of the original Inca trail and has a 4-day and 2-day option. ✜ Read a series book #4 or #2. - The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe
3. You will need a permit for the Classic Inca Trail. They are limited but there are other hiking options if you are unable to secure one. ✜ Read a book where the first letter of every word in the title can be found in CLASSIC INCA TRAIL (Two Word Minimum).
✔4. The Salkantay Trek does not need a permit. Named after the iconic Mount Salkantay it has been called “One of the World’s Best Hikes”. ✜ Go to GR Lists and type the word BEST in the search feature. Read a book off one of the lists that has the word BEST in it.- Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden- #1 on this Best of Historical Fiction list https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
✔5. The Lares Trek is an easier option and the ultimate cultural experience. It takes you through traditional Andean communities that have changed little in the last 500 years, giving you a wonderful look back in time. ✜ Read a book tagged CULTURAL on its GR homepage (It can have a country listed before the word CULTURAL).- Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison 11/1/18
✔6. If you don't plan to hike, you can take the train to Aguas Calientes, which deposits you at the foot of the mountain heading up to MP. ✜ Read a book with a mountain on the cover. - Where the Lilies Bloom by Vera Cleaver by Vera Cleaver 1/9/19
✔7. There are two rail companies that operate trains to MP: PeruRail and Inca Rail. Both give you options ranging from the budget friendly to impressive luxury cars. ✜ Read a book with a title that begins with a letter in RAIL. - The Last Man Who Knew Everything: Thomas Young, the Anonymous Polymath Who Proved Newton Wrong, Explained How We See, Cured the Sick, and Deciphered the Rosetta Stone, Among Other Feats of Genius by Andrew Robinson 10/16/18
✔8. At 11,150 feet, Cusco requires acclimation to avoid acute mountain sickness, or AMS. Even though MP is just under 8,000 feet it’s a good idea to give yourself a day in the area to acclimate. ✜ Read a book with a MC with a first name that starts with A, M or S. - Maps and Legends: Reading and Writing Along the Borderlands by Michael Chabon- the MC is the author himself Michael Chabon.
✔9. From Aguas Calientes there are two ways to get to the actual site - by foot or by bus. Both have their obstacles: a two hour stair-heavy trip up the hill or a two hour wait in line to board a bus. ✜ Read a book with a 2 in the total page count. - The Green Man by Kingsley Amis 12/20/18- 240p.
10. New rules and regulations for visiting MP went into effect on July 1, 2017 making it harder to get tickets. So be sure to purchase your tickets online well in advance to avoid disappointment. ✜ Read a book that was published AFTER July 1, 2017.

7. House of Ornaments: Located at the highest point of the city, they believed this was used to store ornaments because of the niches in the walls. Its three magnificent walls are covered with intricate carvings. ✜ Read the highest numbered book on your TBR/WTR. This would be the last book you have added to it.
8. Inti Watana: One of the strangest features at MP, archaeologists think this carved stone served as a sundial or calendar. At midday on the winter and summer solstice, the sun stands directly above the stone casting no shadow. ✜ Read a book with something that tells time on the cover (calendar, clock, watch, etc.)
