Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Gosh, we're up to Episode 16 already! I figured tomorrow might get a bit busy, what with one thing or another, so I've moved publication of this week's exciting instalment to today :-)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Having been early (because of the Coronation and Local Elections) last week, I'm a few days behind this week! Fingers crossed, normal service will be resumed this week but, in the meantime, here's Episode 17 on my Undertakers in Spain saga:

BREAKING NEWS - It's been made ABCtales Pick of the Day!
Doesn't happen to my stories very often, so very chuffed!

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments I thought it might be useful to summarise the situation so far - The story so far (you can read from the start at 'Board Stiff!'): Josiah and Archibald, our two Undertakers, are on a mission to Spain to collect the mortal remains of Sir Lewisham Carnock. Unable to return by air (having been deemed to be terrorists, an unfortunate misunderstanding of course) they are now committed to catching the Santander to Portsmouth ferry, accompanied by Chantelle Lace, who is determined to keep an eye on her 'sugar daddy', Frankie Knight, who, unbeknown to Josiah and Archibald, is the actual occupant of the coffin. Got all that? Now read on:

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Alicia wrote: "I'm way behind - need to catch up."

Always a problem with stories in instalments, Alicia. If you miss an episode or two, it's a pain to catch up again! Mind you, it worked for Charles Dickens so ...

message 558: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments In Dickens' day, the installments might vanish (though any one of a thousand people could bring you up to speed); now, the internet is forever.

As usual, I can follow one scent at a time only - I'll get there.

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments So chuffed to relate that this week's episode has been made a Pick of the Day at ABCtales!

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Well, things are looking up for Josiah and Archibald. They have their body (possibly!) and a means of getting it to the U.K. (ferry from Santander). All they need now is Chantelle packed and ready to go. What could possibly go wrong?

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments We're up to Part 21 in which Josiah and Chantelle come to a mutually beneficial arrangement and the Detectives get all their eggs in one basket!

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Better late than never, this week's exciting episode from my Undertakers in Spain, in which Amber takes a stand, Lawrence takes steps and Josiah, Archibald and Chantelle 'take a powder'

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Part 24 and most of the characters have answered a 'call of nature', with varying degrees of success, whilst Archibald gets to grips with the concept of foreign food!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments It's not you, it's me.

The extraordinary challenges have too much of my attention.

As some famous movie character said (you can conjure him up with no trouble), "I'll be back."

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments We're at Part 25 already, which poses some questions such as why is everyone else obsessed with their bladder size and why is Frankie sharing his bed with a Meat Feast pizza?

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments A day earlier than normal (I'm spoiling you really, aren't I?) and Archibald and Amber have the body back in the coffin and can breathe a sigh of relief, or can they?

message 586: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments You would think that, now they're finally on the ferry, a little R & R would be possible? Not so much!

message 587: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments With Josiah, Archibald and Chantelle all safely on the ferry, along with Amber and Lawrence, and all heading for their ultimate destination at last, all should be well. Even the coffin is safely stowed! So, no problem then?

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Just had some great news about Josiah and Archibald! Their first ever story - 'A Dubiouos Undertaking' - has been selected for broadcast on Yorick Radio's podcast on Friday, 17th November, 2023 :-)

I'm very excited about this and interested to hear how they transition from the written word to audio! My thanks to everyone on this forum who have supported Josiah and Archibald throughout their adventures. Much appreciated!

message 589: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments After all the excitement about Josiah and Archibald's forthcoming lurch onto the airwaves (see above) it's time to get back to the more mundane and share this week's episode, in which the detectives find something fishy and Chantelle and Frankie slip the net!

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Stuck on a ferry to Southampton in poor weather, it's a bit tricky to avoid people you want to avoid, even more so if you didn't know they were there in the first place! Yes, after a brief hiatus, Josiah and Archibald are back :-)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments As well as a brand new episode, Josiah and Archibald have chosen today to take to the airwaves! Their very first story, 'A Dubious Undertaking' has been interpreted and broadcast by Yorick Radio Productions and I couldn't be more pleased with the result! Catch up with the audio version by visiting the podcast now:

message 597: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments "Have you heard, Mr. O.? We're on the radio!"
"I think the term 'radio', in this instance, may be stretching the definition somewhat" Josiah observed, "my understanding is that it is, what is termed in modern parlance, a podcast"
"Yeah, but...the radio, eh?"
"You will forgive me, Archibald, if I do not share your enthusiasm, given that the broadcast relates to matters which I would much prefer were forgotten, the explosion at the crematorium, the loss of a valued client and the adoption of a, somewhat crass, advertising slogan"
"Oh yeah, but...wow, eh?"

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Normal service has been resumed and the weekly episodes are back! In this case, with Chantelle discovering just how bored you can be in certain company but, then again, the excitement provided by Frankie Knight might be a bit more than either of them bargained for!
