Jamie Whitehead Hi Everyone,

I need some suggestions for YA novels. I have a young relative going through cancer treatments (she is 13) and I am planning on sending her a care package and wanted to include some books. I do not read much YA material but wanted some suggestions for a few novels (stand alone) or a series that would be funny, upbeat and enjoyable reads for her. Thank you so much for the help!

Thanks,

Jamie

She might enjoy the Lunar Chronicles (series), Midnight for Charlie Bone (series), Uglies (series), or The Selection (series).

The selection would be an awesome get away for your relative going through a hard time.

Maybe a couple stand alone's would be fun too! Try Heartless by Marissa Meyer (It's about the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland before she is the Queen! You can check out my review on it too if you'd like!) Or Maybe a Sarah Dessen books, I just read "Someone Like You" and quite enjoyed it and also have a review for! I am currently reading Royals by Rachel Hawkins and it is sounding very promising so far!

Good luck!

adorkylibrarian | 12 comments I second The Selection Series, Percy Jackson, and the Lunar Chronicles. Those are all great reads for her age!

I also highly recommend the Gallagher Girls series. It follows 7th grader Cammie Morgan and her friends at an all girl spy school and it's really fantastic!

The Ever Afters (series) is also great. It's a similar read-a-like to the Percy Jackson series but instead of following a boy discovering his link to mythology characters, it follows a girl discovering her link to magic and fairytale characters.

And of course Ella Enchanted is a classic. In the book, Ella is younger and the story is much more lighthearted than the movie---no crazy evil uncles intent on murder to be found.

Hope this helps.

Sort of an Arabic desert feel to her world building, but with genie magic and some original mythology. I loved the series!
