Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) I know it's such a broad topic! I'll start by saying Bast. There is a strange depth to him even though his own actions are immature most of the time. He's off romping with village wives (how is it that this hasn't cause trouble yet?) and yet as he listen's to Kvothe's story, he interjects, reacting more "human" than even Kvothe himself, in good ways and bad. The times that stick out to me are first when (view spoiler) and when (view spoiler)

What are some of your favorite side character and side character moments so far?

Casey | 654 comments My two favorites areMaster Elodin and Auri.

Richard Balmer | 4 comments I really like Devi. The basic idea behind how that character works seems so obvious in hindsight that it's pretty brilliant!

Derek (raistlinsghost) | 81 comments I just finished the book and I'd go with the two female characters that interested me the most. Auri and Fela. I want to say more but don't want to get spoilery. Is this a spoiler safe thread?

Dustin (tillos) | 365 comments Oops. I'm been writing her hame as Bella.

Anyway, I really like most of the side characters. Even the ones only there for one chapter.

The "YOU GET LEFT BEHIND!" guy.

And the shoemaker, and Travis, and Lorren.

Favorites though.

Devi, Elodin, Kilven?, and Auri.

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) This time around I'm really liking Wil and Sim.

terpkristin | 4407 comments Auri for sure. If I'm not mistaken, Rothfuss is going to be releasing a short story soon-ish that tells more about her. I can't wait.

Toss up between Devi and Auri. This book has a bunch of great supporting characters.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things releases in Oct I think. WOOT!

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) I can't wait! I still haven't read the Unfettered story. I haven't read any Unfettered at all even though I bought it day one. :(

Skip | 517 comments I liked Fela, Wil and Sim, they reminded of people I knew and felt very grounded. As much as I like Auri and Elodin, they are such unique characters that they didn't resonate the same way. While I don't "like" D, I do weep for her, because while I'm not sure Kvothe's story will be a tragedy in the end, I fear hers will be.

Ions auri! hands down! that's not to say I don't love almost every other side character in the series. the only ones I hate are Hem and Ambrose... but I love love hate them!

Micah (onemorebaker) | 1071 comments I haven't been re-introduced to Auri yet on my re-read but I remember her being my favorite non-kvothe character. I can't wait to see if that holds true or if my liking shifts to another.

There was something bothering me about the tone of Bast. It's probably how I'm reading it in my head. I think that Bast reminds me of Hobbes from Calvin and Hobbes. It's just something about the language he uses and his intention. Like something loyal and playful with a possibility of danger.

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) Okay so the story I was thinking is in Rogues, thanks!

Kenley Neufeld (kenleyneufeld) | 81 comments Like others, I'm going with Master Elodin and Auri. In fact, Auri reminds me some of Myrtle in Harry Potter. I got to liking Fela toward the end and hope we might have more of her in the next volume.

Casey | 654 comments terpkristin wrote: "... Rothfuss is going to be releasing a short story soon-ish that tells more about her."

Yes, it's slated to come out this fall. And I believe the audiobook is read by Pat.

Auri reminds me more of Luna than Myrtle.

Kenley Neufeld (kenleyneufeld) | 81 comments Yes, Misti, that's also a good comparison. Luna.

L (Lawliet) | 1 comments Abenthy! even tho he plays a small part, his interaction with young kvothe when teaching him the ways of sympathy really stood out for me. I will also say elodin, who I picture as L from deathnote. I've just started 2nd book and elodin only gets better

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) The final Skarpi scene made me all emotional.

Tsedai | 68 comments I love everyone at the University. As someone who has spent far too many years of my life at an institution of higher education, everyone at the school comes off as far too realistic, even the magically crazy ones. I even love the guys we hate, because oh man how many of those people have we met in real life? Too many awesome characters in the University sequences to name them all, but pretty much anyone from that section of the story makes my list.

Jules | 7 comments Misti wrote: "Auri reminds me more of Luna..."

Yes, I thought that too when reading the book! She was my favourite side character, for sure... although Devi is a close second.

Icelord | 35 comments I've not read the book in print, but from the Audiobook my favorite side characters are due to the voices the actor gives them: Will, the "You get left behind!" caravan driver, the swine herder, and the two brothers(?) that own/run the fancy bar across the river from the university.

If anyone has both read and listened to the book, did the mode of consumption change your favorite side characters?
