Hi team! :) Looking forward to playing with you!
Anybody got a pressing wish to be captain? Or, y'know, wants to volunteer as tribute? I can do it if necessary, but since I'm the crazy person running this thing and playing both games as well, I'm really hoping someone else might be willing to take the job. :)
I live in Finland, which puts me in timezone GMT+2 (that's 8h ahead of US central). Where's everybody else located?
Clever ideas for team names, anyone?

I don't mind being captain if nobody else wants to. This is a piece of cake compared to being a captain for TowerTeams.

I like reading a little of everything, and especially historical romance and mystery. I also love UF and thrillers. I’m hopping by to knock back a lot of my TBR with this challenge.

I'm in Oregon, so US Pacific time (don't make me count zones, I suck at it)
I like Fiction Fiends.
Other ideas I came up with:
Serial Novelites
Super Nerds (my son insisted that I suggest this one)
Litwits
Sassy Serials
TBR Slayers

So turns out the mod wasn't paying attention when writing up the bonus point requirements, so here's an update to the starting and finishing a series bonus. What it was meant to say is:
✸ One point can be earned for starting and finishing a series. There must be at least 4 books in that series. Series + spin-off totalling ≥4 books also counts. For series with >9 books, point will be awarded for reading books 1-9.

Apologies for the late reply I have been away on holiday and the wifi signal was virtually non existent! Looking forwards to playing :)
Glad you made it, Jade!
With all players checked in and a sizeable list of back-ups, I'm making some last minute additions to the smaller teams.
Shae will be joining us.

Book: The Holiday From Hell by Demelza Carlton
Qualification: book 5 in the Mell goes to Hell series
Pages: 256
Finished: 9/15/18
Rating: 5 star
Review:
I was excited when I realized that I could read this book for our first roll. This is one of my favorite series (definitely not for kids!). I just love how you are reading along and all of a sudden a character says or does something that makes you laugh out loud. My husband must think I am nuts when I read these books. The text messages that poor Lucifer kept getting were making me giggle... a lot. Especially after he has been trying so hard to be good. I found the concept of Hell & the Underworld being two different places interesting. I can't wait to see how things go in the next book with Lucifer and Hades both fighting for control of Hell. There is just something about this series that I can't resist. So glad that I got to read it first for this challenge.

Review:
What is not to like about a Louise Bay book. As soon as I started the first chapter I got drawn into the story. Logan Steele successful and ruthless business man also an Earl by birth moves him and his Grandmother into a quite village where Lady Darcy has lived her whole life and has dedicated herself to keeping the village just as it. Logan moving into the village throws her world into disarray and she fights to protect everything she holds dear. She didn't bet on Logan being extremely attractive, quick witted and what she has been looking for all along. Both characters are very feisty and know exactly what they won't and will stop at nothing to get it.
This is the kind of book you can curl up with and get lost for a few hours.

Review:
A tea captain has been murdered in Point of Sighs. A prime suspect is quickly (too quickly?) identified: the brother of a renowned tea merchant who was seen to quarrel with the victim shortly before his death and happens to reside in Point of Dreams, leading to squabbles over jurisdiction between Sighs and Dreams. Dreams Adjunct Point Nicolas Rathe and his Sighs counterpart Dammar have barely begun to look into the crime in grudging cooperation when Dammar is brutally attacked and left for dead, adding a new angle to the investigation. At the request of the tea merchant's family, the newly formed City Guard, in the person of Nico's lover Philip Eslingen, has also been asked to participate in finding who was responsible for the captain's murder. Coming at the investigation from different sides, Nico and Philip uncover a number of shady goings-on, though all of that pales beside the swirling rumours that the Riverdeme, an ancient murderous river spirit that has long been bound by the city's warded bridges, has been released and more and more corpses mauled by the vicious dogfish associated with her are being hauled out of the river.
I just love this wonderfully immersive world and the characters that inhabit it so much, it's hardly surprising that I enjoyed this latest installment in the series just as immensely as the previous ones. Melissa Scott just never disappoints.

What in the hell did I just read? I thought I was reading a romance but it seemed I was reading a dark depressing story about past sexual abuse and current self harm. Extreme self harm, graphic self harm, constant self harm. This book had that grim feel without any light to bring it out of the deep dark. I kept waiting...and waiting. It seemed to try with some scenes but it just wasn't enough. And not that it mattered all that much when we were mired in all that sadness but there also wasn't any sex. A tiny bit but nothing to make their connection seem all that strong. I didn't dislike this one but I wasn't prepared for it.

Review: I was really looking forward to Hallsy's book, but unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. Max Hall has taken the last 16 months off of hockey, after his wife got sick and then died. Now he's ready to come back and needs to get in shape. When he attends Marc and Lovey Dupuis' wedding, he meets bridesmaid Kendra Armstrong, and they have a wild night. They go on to agree to a sex-only arrangement which works for them both, since she lives in New York and is busy with her sex-toy business. Of course, feelings always get in the way of these arrangements! I didn't like the first person narrative from Max in this book. It just didn't sound like a guy's thoughts. And there was so many descriptions of chicken breasts, quinoa, brown rice, kale - ok, we get it that Max needs to eat healthy, but every meal doesn't need to be discussed. I guess this would be my least favorite of the series. Sigh.....I still love Max, though

Without Merit by Colleen Hoover

Review: I really enjoyed this Colleen Hoover book. 1. Because it’s Colleen Hoover and 2. It was different to her other romance infused novels. I loved the family relationships throughout this book and the way that they all came together in the end. I thought it was really good how Hoover had a quirky MC that had depression, it was a great change to the tropey MCs in the other books (although I still do love all of those characters too). I found Merit and Sagen’s relationship really cute and I enjoyed how it didn’t fully get into it till around the 70% mark. The rest was purely family problems. Will definitely continue on my Hoover spree!

This took a long time to heat up but once it did it was on fire! I really appreciated the slow burn and how Marlowe and Emma overcame their own issues to find happiness with each other. I also loved that Emma wanted to be a writer and had her own goals and ambitions other than marriage. It was such a fresh take on a historical romance! No balls and fancy parties, but business meetings and bookshops and a woman who can live quite comfortably on her own merits. The only reason I knocked off a star was because I do think the beginning dragged on a little long.
