Sheila (sheilaj) Arshiya wrote: "Hi guys! Excited to be a part of a team challenge again! Took a break from GR there for a while :P"

I've tried to do that Arshiya but I have accepted that GR is my 2nd home. This is my first team challenge in quite a while though but it is one of my favorites since I am all about series and a have a series book for any occasion.

message 27: by Krissy (new)

Krissy (krissystewart) | 3693 comments Welcome to the team, Arshiya! I've never even tried to take a break from GR. I know it'd be pointless. Lol

message 28: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I would like to get to know my teammates better. I'll start off.

I'm a recently retired respiratory therapist. Since retirement I have decided my NEW job is to be a reader! I live in Illinois along the Mississippi River. My other hobby is a quilter. I'm married to a very patient man for 43 hears and have 2 married children. A son who lives near us and a daughter and her family who live in Tokyo. I have 3 beautiful grandsons ranging in age from 15 to 2.

I'm a pretty fast reader averaging over 400 books per year and am all about series, mostly mysteries by far.

message 29: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 595 comments 43 years marriage, you know that is so nice to hear. :)

message 30: by GreenFairy (new)

GreenFairy (greenfairy429) Finally checking in. Ended up with a summer cold that has been kicking my butt. I'm usually around daily, multiple times a day.

I read...for pleasure and work. I'm a book editor. I also assistant coach two softball teams for my youngest daughter.

message 31: by Krissy (new)

Krissy (krissystewart) | 3693 comments Glad to see ya here, GF!

message 32: by Krissy (new)

Krissy (krissystewart) | 3693 comments I'm a 36 year old SAHM with 3 kids. Ages 15, 8, & 6. My husband has been in the army for 19 years. We've been together 20 years and married 16. He leaves for Germany soon and will be there for 2 years. Fun times.

I have a lot of free time especially when the kids are in school. So I read. A lot. It's my only hobby.

I'm addicted to audiobooks and reality tv shows (competition shows like Big Brother, Survivor, Amazing Race, Rupaul's Drag Race, Mtv's The Challenge, etc)

message 33: by Krissy (new)

Krissy (krissystewart) | 3693 comments Are we good with Str8 Bookin' It for a name?

message 34: by GreenFairy (new)

GreenFairy (greenfairy429) I'm good with it.

I'm on another team challenge and our team name is 'Bookin' It!'

message 35: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 378 comments I'm a researcher and when I'm not reading, I knit and crochet. I almost exclusively read crime, mysteries and thrillers, and I'm constantly starting more series than I can finish.

message 36: by GreenFairy (new)

GreenFairy (greenfairy429) Maria, I knit and crochet too! I haven't for a while now because a couple months ago I was in a car accident and it messed my arm up. But I'm finally starting to get back into it. The repetitive motion brings on fatigue easily though.

Series...I'm addicted to them. If I have a chance to read a series over standalone, I will.

That's horrible. I hope you will be fully recovered soon!

Me too :-)

message 38: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 595 comments Stay at home mom, volunteer librarian at my daughters school, I use to be hardcore wow player but now it's a very casual thing I do. I want to relearn how to knit, my nan taught me when I was little but I don't really remember it. I want to make my family our own Wesley jumper :) (My daughter is reading Harry Potter for the first time and she just got to that part. )

message 39: by GreenFairy (new)

GreenFairy (greenfairy429) So I have a grasp on this (I did this once before but it's been awhile)...

On Friday, two dice get rolled. The number rolled corresponds to the spot on the board. That number is to be used to determine the item number as well. And we have to read a book that corresponds to that item number.

Two questions for clarification...

1. Does it have to be a series book for either the item or the alternative? Or does that only apply to the alternative?

2. For the alternative, how do we determine which alternative to use?

The alts are the categories assigned to each number. Here is an example of a roll:

I roll 12 and land on 12.

You can read:
#1 in a series
#2 in a series
#12 in a series
Standalone
Alt: Title L

message 41: by Krissy (new)

Krissy (krissystewart) | 3693 comments The only qualification for the alt is the title has to start with L. It doesn't have to be a series book

message 42: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Krissy, about what time do you expect to do the roll?

btwthesepages | 176 comments I guess I haven't introducted myself yet :P

I am a computer science engineering and I very recently graduated from college this June. Currently taking some time off before starting my masters in January. I was a pretty avid reader before I entered my 3rd year of college but since then haven't been able to read as much. Slowly trying to get back into the habit of reading again. Haha. I mostly read fantasy or YA but am open to branching out and trying new genres!

Oh yes, college definitely ruins any chance of reading for pleasure. I didn't actually start reading novels for pleasure until I was in my 30's. I actually didn't know any authors but figured I would like mysteries so I went to the library and asked a librarian to pick a book/author for me in that genre and she picked Mary Higgins Clark and that was all it took! I will always have a special place in my heart for that author although I don't think her newer books are as good as the earlier ones.

message 46: by GreenFairy (new)

GreenFairy (greenfairy429) Thank you, Krissy, for the example. That cleared up any confusion I had better than just an explanation.

So turns out the mod wasn't paying attention when writing up the bonus point requirements, so here's an update to the starting and finishing a series bonus. What it was meant to say is:

✸ One point can be earned for starting and finishing a series. There must be at least 4 books in that series. Series + spin-off totalling ≥4 books also counts. For series with >9 books, point will be awarded for reading books 1-9.

message 48: by Krissy (new)

Krissy (krissystewart) | 3693 comments 6 more hours until 1st roll! Are you ready???

message 49: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I just loaded a 6, 7 and 9th in a series on my ipod.
